લખેલો મારો પત્ર મળી
ગયો હશે. તેં ત્યાં
વારા ૧૨/૩ નાં
પત્રની પહોંચ લખેલી— પરંતુ તે પત્ર હું
અહિંથી શનિવારે Cross થયેલો એટલે વાંચેલો નહીં.
આજે અહિંયા આવીને વાંચ્યો. ચિંતા ટળી. તેં આ
બીજો પત્ર લખી નાંખવાનું
જરૂર જાણીને લખ્યું છે; અમે પણ
ચિ. જામ્બુને લખીએ ગઈકાલે લખેલો
પત્ર પણ તને મળી
ગયો હશે. તારા પત્રનો
બુકિંગ ત્યાં બાબતનાં ખબરની રાહ તારીખ જોતા
હશે. પરંતુ મારા ગઈ કાલેનાં
પત્રમાં જણાવ્યા મુજબ રીઝર્વ બેંક
Geena Co પાસે ડોલર પરમીટ માટે.
માંગેલી વિગત furnish કર્યા બાદ ડોલર પરમીટ
ને પરમીટ મેળવ્યા પછીજ જાતે ત્યાં
passage book કરી શકે અને તે
થયા પહેલા તને Cable કેમ કરી શકાય?
અને તેથીજ શ્રી શાંતિલાલ કુવાએ
તા. ૨૨/૩ ને
પત્ર લખીને એમને જે કાંઈ
વિગત છે તે પત્ર
તને મળી ગયો હશે
જે એમને કાંઈ વિગત
પુછાવી હશે, તારા ૧૬/૩ નાં પત્ર
ઉપરથી એમ સમજાય છે.
આ મહીનાની આખરે વિદેશમાં તારા
બધા મિત્રો રજાઓ દેવા ધારે
છે. કદાચ એક દિવસ
મોડું પણ થાય તેમ
જણાય છે. જો મોડું
થાય તો U.S.A. નાં બીજા સ્ટેશનોએ
વ્યાપાર કદાચ તારા લીધા
સમયે ન પણ રહે.
તેના આધાર મુંબઈમાં તારા
પરમીટ મંજુરી ઉપર અવલંબે છે.
આજે શ્રી શાંતિલાલ કુવાનું
પત્ર લખી નવરાવ્યો છે.
પેસેન્જરનાં બુકિંગ કે આપણા તારીખ
૨૨/૩ નાં પત્રમાં
જણાવ્યા મુજબ યુર્નિયા થઈ
ગયા છે તને મળોગ્યાં
મલોડે તા. ૫/૫
અબ્રીલ સુધીનાં cableથી ખબર આપી
દેવા જણાવ્યું છે. તેની વિગત
આવી ગઈ હશે— Passage booked advised 22nd — Gandhi આ તાર તને
તારીખ ચોથી પાંચમી એપ્રીલ
સુધીમાં મળી જાય તો
બીજા સ્ટેશનોએ જવાના પ્રોગ્રામ માંડી વાળવો તા. ૮મીનાં ન્યુયોર્ક
પહોંચી જઈને Travelling Agents
messrs. Jeena & Co. નો રૂપિયા તેષોમાં
ન્યુયોર્ક જાતેમાં જે એજન્ટ હોય
તેનો સંપર્ક સાધીને તા. ૮/૫
નાં સાઉધમ્પ્ટન માટે Cunard Line ની સ્ટીમર "Queen Mary" પકડવાની છે. એ ગણતરીમાં
થઈને જો રીઝર્વ બેંકમાં
રૂા. ડોલર પરમીટ મેળવતા
કદાચ મેં ઈશ્વરનગર/પલોડ
થયું તો ત્યાર પછીની
બીજે કે પંચમી ઓગસ્ટ
સુધીમાં હશે ત્યાં જીદ
કરીને ખબર આપશે. નય
અપ ભરોસો કે શરમાના, ડેટ્રોઈટ,
ફીલાડેલ્ફીયા, જાસ્ટન વગેરે સ્ટેશનોએ થઈ આવી શકીશ.
તારા ત્યાંનાં પોસ્ટલ એડ્રેસમાં ત્યાંજ તું ખાતા શોધીશ
કોઈ ફેરફાર કરવાનો મહીને તો—

તેં ત્યાં સાળા સાળા પિતા
પાસેથી રૂા. ૧૦૦/- નાં
ડોલર લઈ લીધા તે
વ્યાજબી. અને તારાં જણાવ્યા
મુજબ રૂા. ૧૫૦/- અને
રૂા. ૧૫૦/- તે તે ધણીશાર્મ
રાજકોટથી શાંતિલાલ આપ્યા છે, તારા લખાવા
મુજબ એટલે તારે $૧૮૦
સુધીની સગવડ મળી સવાની
રહેશે. જરૂર પડયેથી ૫૦/-
વધુ મેળવી લેજે. અને રાજકોટ ખબર
લખી નાંખજે. એટલે તને આશાશી
સામે પૈસા શાંતિલાલ આપશે—

ન્યુયોર્ક કે યુરોપમાં કઈપણ
રાન વસ્તુ લાવવાની જરૂર નથી. જાલ
કરવા જે કંઈ સગવડ
હોય તો મુંબઈ આવીને
લેજો. મુંબઈમાં બધીઓ વસ્તુ મળે
છે. એટલે નાખીઓ ભાર
ન ખેંચવો હોય દેશનાં માણા
નોટોમાં વ્યય કરશો તે
વ્યાજબી નથી— હાલ અમે
હું ધારું છું કે કદાચ
જરૂર પડશે તો આ
પછી નાંધાય અને છેલ્લો પત્ર
તને લખવાનો રહેશે — તારા રવાના થયાના
ન્યુયોર્કથી લખી જણાવજે. અને
બે દિવસ સાઉધમ્પ્ટન ઉતર
તાર દિવસ ત્યાંજ પત્રકે
ખબર આપજે અને પેસેન્જર
પાં એ તે સ્ટેપ
વ્યાનું થાય તેને સ્ટેપથી
પત્ર લખતો રહેશે. પણ
જે સ્ટેપ ઉતરવાનું થાય તેનું સ્ટેપનું
એડ્રેસ લખજો પત્રમાં એવો
ઈશારો છે. Naples થી Bombay નાં રસ્તામાં રહેશે.
અને સૌ ઈશારો છે.
સ્ટીમર રેડસીનાં પોર્ટસ અને એડન, ત્રિવેન્દ્ર
થઈ ૨૨૫ વાગ્યે સ્ટીમર
મુંબઈ પહોંચશે અને ૧૫ વાડિગું
લાગશે ફ્રી આવતા તેવી
મુંબઈ પહોંચવા અને અઠવાડિયું લાગશે.

Dear Brother Batuk,
Greetings. You must have received my letter written yesterday from Rajkot. You acknowledged receipt of my letter dated 12/3—however, since it crossed with my departure on Saturday, I had not read it then. I read it today upon arriving here; worries are relieved. You felt the need to write this second letter and sent it; we are also writing to Dear Jambu, and you must have also received the letter written to you yesterday.
You must be awaiting news regarding your booking over there. However, as stated in my letter yesterday, after furnishing the required details to Jeena & Co. for the dollar permit from the Reserve Bank, and only after securing the dollar permit, can passage be booked there directly. How could a cable be sent before that is accomplished? Therefore, Shri Shantilal Kuwa wrote a letter on Date 22/3 with whatever information was available—you must have received that letter answering any queries raised, as understood from your letter dated 16/3.
At the end of this month, all your friends abroad plan to take leaves. It appears it might be delayed by a day. If delayed, business/travel at other U.S.A. stations might not align with your intended time. That depends on the permit approval in Mumbai. Today I wrote a letter to Shri Shantilal Kuwa after getting some free time. Regarding passenger booking as mentioned in our letter of Date 22/3, it was requested to inform you by cable around Date 5/5 April once details are finalized. The message details must have arrived—Passage booked advised 22nd — Gandhi. If you receive this telegram by the 4th or 5th of April, cancel plans to visit other stations. Reach New York by Date 8th, contact travelling agents Messrs. Jeena & Co. or their agent in New York, and catch the Cunard Line steamer "Queen Mary" scheduled for Southampton on Date 8/5.
Factoring that in, if there is any delay/hurdle in obtaining the dollar permit from the Reserve Bank, then update stubbornly by 2nd or 5th August. Have confidence without hesitation; you will be able to visit stations like Detroit, Philadelphia, Boston, etc. You can manage accounts using your postal address over there if any changes occur during the month—
Secondly, taking $100 from your brother-in-law's father over there was reasonable. As stated by you, Rs. 150/- and Rs. 150/- were given to Shantilal from Rajkot according to your instructions, so arrangements up to $180 will remain available to you. If needed, obtain $50 more and write news to Rajkot, so Shantilal will provide funds against that expectation—
Secondly, there is no need to bring any foreign goods from New York or Europe. Whatever convenience you need for travel, purchase after arriving in Mumbai. Everything is available in Mumbai, so avoid carrying unnecessary luggage and spending local currency, which is not sensible—
For now, I believe this might be the last letter written to you before departure. Write and inform us from New York upon your departure. Upon landing at Southampton, send a letter or news within two days from there, and keep writing letters at each port/step along the way as the passenger journey progresses. Mention the address of whichever step/port you disembark at, as indicated in the letter. The route will be from Naples to Bombay. The steamer will pass through Red Sea ports, Aden, and Trivandrum, reaching Mumbai at 2:25 PM, taking about a week to 15 days to reach Mumbai.

Dear Batukbhai,
Delighted to know you are returning soon. I arrived here from Rajkot just today. Took the S.S.C. exams and the papers went well; I expect to get a First Class.
It was a pleasure visiting Rajkot. When you return from there, if you find any good, useful books for the medical line, please bring them along. I am considering entering that line, and it will be useful in the future.
My health/body hasn't improved much, just like Lunkam's, but there is no need to worry about that. I have full self-confidence that I will definitely pass the exam.
After a week, I will embark on a travel trip toward Janata Sukh.
Received a letter from Kamalabahen; everyone is doing well. Please give my respectful regards to Respected Ba, Jambu, and everyone.
