મોકલી આપો. ખર્ચનું College estimation તો બહુ જ તુરત મોકલશો (Reserve Bank માટે).

જો chemical Eng. નું કંઈ તપાસ કરી જાણો તો બહુ સારું. આ સાથે હું મારું admission form અને Certificates મોકલું છું તો તુરત Admission મળે (બને તો U.S. માં નહિતર B.J.) તેઓ મદદ કરશે સાથે બરાબર તપાસ કરીને નીચેનું જણાવશો.

(૧) B.S. થયા પછી M.S. કરવા સારું M.S. કરવામાં ઓછામાં ઓછો કેટલો વખત લાગશે? (આપણે B.Sc. માં Chem. Eng. ના Subject લીધેલ હોવાથી થઈ શકાશે ને?)

(૨) ફી વાર્ષિક કુલ કેટલી છે? M.S. કરવામાં service ન કરી શકાય તો કેટલો ખર્ચ થાય તે લખો.

(૩) Service ના શો શો ઉપાયો છે? અભ્યાસની સાથે થઈ શકે તેવી Service મળશે? તેનાથી Part-Time માં આપણે કેટલું કમાઈ શકાય?

(૪) Service ન કરવી હોય તો Vacation માં રોજગાર મેળવવો ખરો? તો વહેલું M.S. પૂરું થઈ શકે?

મારી પાસે Illinois નું form ન હોવાથી આ general form મોકલું છું જરૂરી લાગે તો ત્યાંનું form આપના તરફથી ભરીને સાથે આપી દેશો. Admission તુરત મોકલશો કારણ મારે Dec માં તો નીકળવું છે.

It would be very good if you could inquire and find out about Chemical Engineering. Along with this, I am sending my admission form and Certificates so that I can get admission immediately (if possible in the U.S., otherwise B.J.). They will help; along with that, please inquire thoroughly and let me know the following:

(1) After completing B.S., how much minimum time will it take to complete M.S.? (Since we have taken Chem. Eng. subjects in B.Sc., it can be done, right?)

(2) What is the total annual fee? If one cannot do a job while studying M.S., write down how much the expense will be.

(3) What are the ways/options for getting a job? Will a job be available that can be done along with studies? How much can one earn from it part-time?

(4) If one does not want to work during studies, is employment available during vacations? In that case, can M.S. be completed sooner?

How is the standard of California (Los Angeles) considered? How much cheaper is Illinois compared to there? How is Illinois considered for getting a job?

Since I do not have the Illinois form, I am sending this general form. If required, please fill out their form from your side and submit it. Please send the admission immediately because I have to leave by December.

પ્રિય ભાઈ બટુક, તને અચાનક આવા ખબર મળશે એવું કોઈએ ધાર્યું નહોતું. આપણી સૌની વ્હાલી બેન ઉમા સૌને છોડીને ચાલી ગઈ છે. કુદરતે અંતે એનો જીવ લીધો. એ કલ્લોલતું રમકડું આમ એકાએક વિખરાઈ થઈ જશે એવું સ્વપ્નામાંય નોતું ત્રણેક દિવસ પહેલાં દુખાવો ઉપડેલ રાતનાં વધારો થયો. સવારે રાજકોટ મોટરમાં લઈ ગયા ડૉક્ટરોએ જોઈને જ આશા મૂકી દીધી. રાતનાં વધ્યું અને વહેલી સવારે તો ચાલતી નીકળી. છેવટ સુધી ભગવાનનાં નામ લેતી લેતી ગઈ. ઉમા દિવસ રાત નજરે ચડી છે. એને સંભારી

Dear Brother Batuk,

No one had imagined that you would receive such news so suddenly. Our beloved sister Uma has left us all. Nature finally took her life. No one had even dreamed that this playful toy would be shattered so suddenly. Pain started about three days ago and increased at night. In the morning, she was taken to Rajkot in a car, but the doctors gave up hope as soon as they saw her. It worsened during the night and early in the morning she passed away. Until the very end, she kept taking God's name. Uma is in front of my eyes day and night. Remembering her,

Rather than crying, we must now do things that bring peace to her soul. We should not grieve her soul by crying. Be brave. Let us pray to God to grant peace to her soul!

ખબર મળી મુસાફરી હશે સ્વપ્નામાં પણ ખ્યાલ નહોતો કે આપણી વહાલી બહેન ઉમા આપણને સૌને છોડીને જઈ શકે. પરમદિવસે સાંજે વડીયા આબદા ઓફિસે આવ્યો ત્યારે ખબર પડી કે બા, બાપુજી ઉમાને લઈને અહિં આવ્યા છે. તુરંત મળવા ગયો અને ઉમાને જોઈ તો હું ડઘાઈ ગયો. શરીર સાવ અડધું થઈ ગયું હતું. એના રોમે રોમમાં ઝેર પ્રસરી ગયું હતું અને છેવટે ગઈકાલ વહેલી સવારે આપણને સૌને રડતા મૂકી પ્રભુના ધામ ભેગી ચાલી ગઈ. રોઈ રોઈ સાંત્વના આપવા ઘણો યત્ન કર્યો, હૃદય સાવ ભાંગી પડ્યું છે. શું થાય? કદાચ તેનો આપણી સાથેનો ઋણાનુબંધ પૂરો થયો હશે. આપણી વસંતની માફક જ જલ્દી ને ગાઢ અંધકારમાં ઓગળી ગઈ. ખેર! પ્રભુની ઈચ્છા જ બળવાન છે. એને ભોગવ્યા સિવાય છુટકો નથી. કદાચ જીવનભર આપણે એને નહિ ભૂલી શકીએ એનું નિર્દોષ હસતું મુખ હરઘડી નજર સામે તરવરશે. આપણા ઘરમાં આ પ્રથમ પ્રસંગ હોય સૌને ખુબ લાગી આવે એ સ્વાભાવિક છે. મૃત્યુ આટલું બધું ભયંકર હોઈ શકે પણ આજે જ સમજાયું. તમે ત્યાં એકલા છો એટલે તમારે પોતે જ આશ્વાસન મેળવવું રહેશે. હિંમત રાખજો અને બાપુજીને વિગતવાર પત્ર લખતા રહેશો. વિશેષ સાચવીને રહેશો.

બીજી એક અગત્યની વાત માર્કશીટ તે મળે એટલે પિયુષને મોકલી આપજો. તેમના કોલેજના Caution money માટે કાંઈ તમારે લખવું જોઈશે નહીં. તમે પ્રિન્સીપાલ ઉપર એક એવો કાગળ લખજો કે આ ચીઠ્ઠી લાવનાર હરહરલાલ છે અને તેમને મારા પૈસા આપી દેજો જી.

 

પ્રિય ભાઈ બટુક,

તને ખબર તો મળી જ ચૂક્યા હશે કે આપણી વહાલી લાડકી બહેન ઉમા સૌને મૂકીને ચાલ્યા ગઈ છે. ટાઈફોઈડ તાવે છેવટ એનો જીવ લીધો. ફક્ત ત્રણ જ દિવસની બિમારી. અહિંથી બા, બાપુજી એને મોટરમાં રાજકોટ લઈ ગયા ડોક્ટરોએ આશા મૂકી દીધી. ત્યારબાદ ફક્ત ૨૪ જ કલાક રાત રહી, સવારના તો દેહ છોડ્યો. છેવટે રામનામ, વિ. ધર્મના નામ લીધેલા. બાપુજી, બા તથા મોટા ભાઈને બની શકે એટલું બધું કરી છૂટ્યા, પણ એની જીંદગી પૂરી થઈ ગયેલી એટલે આપણા ઘર ઉપર આ અસહ્ય આફત આવી પડી છે. સૌના હૃદય રડી રહ્યા છે, પણ દિલ મજબૂત કર્યા સિવાય છૂટકો કોઈ નથી. એના આત્માને શાંતિ આપવા ખાતર પણ આપણે રડવાનું બંધ રાખવું જોઈએ. એની ચેષ્ટા ને એનું હસમુખું આપણી સામે શાંતિ મય એવી વસ્તુઓ તરવરે છે. તું ત્યાં એકલો છે એટલે તારી તબિયત સાચવજે. બાપુજીને આશ્વાસન લેવાનું રહ્યું છે લાલુભાઈને ઘરે જઈ એને પણ ખબર આપી દીધા છે. તું સાથે રહી હિંમત રાખજે.

વિશેષ શું? હિંમતમાં રહેજે. એના આત્માને પ્રભુ શાંતિ આપે એ જ ઈચ્છીએ. — લિ. મંજુ

Respected Batukbhai,

I received the news; I had never imagined even in my dreams that our dear sister Uma could leave us all and go away. Day before yesterday in the evening, when Vadiya came to the Abda office, I found out that Ba and Bapuji had brought Uma here with them. I immediately went to see her, and I was stunned upon seeing Uma. Her body was reduced to almost half. Venom had spread through every pore of her body, and finally, early yesterday morning, leaving us all weeping, she departed for the Almighty's abode. I cried immensely and tried hard to find solace; my heart is completely broken. But what can be done? Perhaps her karmic bond with us was fulfilled. Just like our Vasant, she too dissolved so quickly into deep darkness. Well, God's will is supreme, and there is no escape from enduring it. We will probably never be able to forget her throughout our lives; her innocent, smiling face will hover before our eyes every moment. Since this is the first such occurrence in our household, it is natural that everyone is deeply grieved. I realized only today how terrifying death can truly be. Since you are alone there, you will have to console yourself. Keep courage and keep writing detailed letters to Bapuji. Take special care of yourself.

Another important matter: as soon as you get the mark sheet, send it to Piyush. You won't need to write anything regarding his college caution money. Just write a letter to the principal stating that "the bearer of this note is Harharlal, and please hand over my money to him."

Dear brother Batuk,

You must have already received the news that our dear, beloved sister Uma has left everyone and gone. The typhoid fever ultimately took her life. It was an illness of just three days. From here, Ba and Bapuji took her to Rajkot by car, but the doctors gave up hope. After that, she survived for only 24 hours through the night and passed away in the morning. Towards the end, she uttered the names of Rama and other sacred verses. Bapuji, Ba, and Elder Brother did everything humanly possible, but as her life span had come to an end, this unbearable calamity has befallen our family. Everyone's heart is weeping, but there is no option other than steeling our hearts. Even for the peace of her soul, we must stop crying. Her innocent gestures and cheerful face linger peacefully before us. Since you are alone there, take care of your health. Bapuji needs to be comforted; we also went to Lalubhai's house and informed him. Stand strong alongside everyone and keep courage.

What more to write? Stay courageous. May God grant peace to her soul, that is all we pray for.

Letters must be arriving from sister in Kolkata. Recently, there has been no letter from there here.

Kaka and others came here and have since left for Junagadh. Everyone at Bhanuben's place must be doing well.

Everyone here is fine. Bapuji and Ba continue to have mild attacks of asthma.
