પ્રિય હેમેન્દ્રભાઈ, તમારો તા. ૧૫ નો કાગળ વાંચી ઘણો આનંદ થયો — તારી ભાષા માટે જ નહિ પણ તેની પાછળ ભાવનાઓ માટે મગરૂરી થઈ. ચાર સ્વીડીશ મિત્રો આવેલા તેમાંથી ત્રણ તો તમનો પ્રવાસ પૂરો કરીને વતનમાં પાછા પહોંચી પણ ગયા છે. આમાંનાં એક બહેનને વિદ્યાનગરના કોઈ અધ્યાપકને ઘેર અઠવાડિયું રહેવાનું બનવાનું નિમંત્રણ પણ હતું ને વહાં હોવાથી અમને ન રહી શકાયું. પણ પ્રવાસમાં ન ઈચ્છવા પડતાં એક સ્ટેજ ધારો કરતાં વધુ રોકાવું પડ્યું તેથી પોતાનો પ્રવાસ-કાર્યક્રમ રાખ્યો નહીં જ્યાં વિદ્યાનગર ને શોલાપુરની બે સુંદર યાત્રાઓ તેમને રદ કરવી પડી.

 

પહેલી ચોથી એક બહેન ડેન્માર્કની ત્યાં જઈને એ ઘણુંખરું તરત સ્વીડન જશે. વળતર પછી ન આવી શકત? બહેનને બદલે આપને ત્યાં વિદ્યાનગરમાં હું મદદ કરીશ. આપણા દેશનું યૌવનધન મોજમાં જ રહીને સત્વહીન ને નિવિર્દ થઈ રહ્યું છે તેનો તારો ચિતાર હૂબહૂ છે. હું તો એમાંથી ત્રાસીને ૧૦ વર્ષ પર ભાગી છૂટેલો. તારા કુશળ સમાચાર ક્યારેક લખતા રહેજે — મળવા આવવા આતુર રહીશ. તબિયત સારી હશે.

Dear Hemendrabhai,

Was very glad to read your letter dated the 15th — felt proud not just of your language, but of the noble sentiments behind it. Out of the four Swedish friends who had come, three have already completed their tour and returned to their homeland. One of the ladies among them even had an invitation to stay for a week at the home of a professor in Vidyanagar, but due to unavoidable circumstances, she couldn't stay. However, during the journey, they unexpectedly had to stay longer at one stage than planned, so they couldn't keep their tour itinerary, and had to cancel two lovely visits to Vidyanagar and Sholapur.

The fourth lady is from Denmark; after going there, she will mostly move on to Sweden immediately. Could she not visit after returning? Instead of her, I will assist you over there in Vidyanagar. Your portrayal of our country's youth wealth becoming depleted and indifferent while indulging only in fleeting pleasures is spot on. I escaped from that very environment ten years ago after getting fed up with it. Keep writing news of your well-being occasionally — will remain eager to meet you. Hope your health is good.
