તારો
પત્ર ઘણા દિવસ પહેલા
મળેલો પણ જવાબ આપવામાં
આજકાલ કરતાં ઘણી ઢીલ થઈ
જાય છે. અને તને
ફરી ક્યા સરનામે પત્ર
લખવો એ પણ એક
પ્રશ્ન હતો, ત્યાં બે
ચાર દિવસ પહેલા બેંગલોરથી
નાનુનો પત્ર આવ્યો જેમાં
તારું નવું સરનામું હતું.
થોડા
દિવસ પહેલા વડીયાથી મંજુનો પત્ર હતો કે
તું પાસીંગ માર્ક થી પાસ થયો
એટલે તને ત્યાં એડમીશન
ન મળ્યું જેથી તું ખુબજ
નીરાશ થઈ ભણવાનું છોડી
વાવડાવવાના વિચારમાં હતો જેથી કોઈને
પત્ર નહોતો લખતો.
આવા
નબળા પ્રસંગથી તું નીરાશ થઈ
જઈશ તો પછી આગળ
જતા જીંદગીના કઠીન પ્રસંગો સામે
આત્માને ઉભો રહેશે ત્યારે
શું કરીશ? તું તો એટલો
પણ નસીબદાર કે ૧૨ વરસ
તો ન બગાડ્યું. જામ
ઘણાને આપણે નથી જોતા
કે જેના એકાદ બે
વરસ બગડે જ છે.
અથવા ભણવાનું મુકીને મોજશોખમાં પડી જાય છે.
તારે તો હિંમત જ
રાખવાની હોય, ક્યારેક એવું
બની જાય કે આપણી
ભણવાની સતત કાળજી તથા
સંત હોવા છતાં નાપાસ
પણ થઈ જવાય છે.
અને બાપુ અત્યારે તારે
ભણવા સીવાય બીજું કોઈ ચિંતા ન
કરવી. બીજી ચિંતાઓ કરવા
માટે પાછળ ઘણો સમય
પડ્યો છે પણ આવો
સમય તો ક્યારેક જ
આવે છે. અને તે
પણ નસીબમાં હોય તો. નાનુને
ને બેંચુર કેટલી ઈચ્છા હતી એની ત્યાં
આવવાની પણ મરજી જ
દેઈક એવા કે પુત્ર
કાળજી છતાં જેને વખત
નાગાર થયો અને ત્યાં
ન આવી શક્યો. એટલે
તારે અત્યારે બીજું કંઈ ન વિચારતા
જે
સમય મળ્યો છે એનો પુરેપુરો
સદ્ઉપયોગ કરી લેવો. અને
પંદર દિવસે મટીને દેશમાં એક કાગળ લખી
નાખવો જેથી પુ.બા
તથા પુ.બાપુજી ને
ચિંતા ન થાય.

હસમુખરાય પંદરક દિવસ પહેલા ત્રણ
દિવસ અહીં આવી ગયા,
એ લોકોને ટ્રેઈનીંગ કોલેજમાંથી ગવર્મેન્ટ તરફથી સૌને જુદાજુદા પ્રદેશો
જોવા લઈ જતા હતા
જેમાં કલકત્તા આવવાનો પણ એમને મોકો
મળી ગયો એટલે એ
પણ આનંદી લાગ્યા અને સૌની સાથે
ઘરનાની જેમ ભળી ગયા.
ભાઈવાનું
ઓક્ટોબરમાં બેંગલોરથી અહીં આવશે. સૌ
વારાફરતી આ તરફ આવતા
રહેશે એટલે અમને ખુબજ
આનંદ આવશે. દેશમાં સૌ મજામાં છે.
મંજુ રમણ વડીયા આવેલી
હશે કદાચ મોડલ ગઈ
હશે.
ત્યાંની
મોસમ રમણ કેવલ છે?
અહીં તો ક્યારેક વરસાદ
ક્યારેક ગરમી, એમ ચાલ્યા કરે
છે, આના પાંચ દિવસ
પુર્વ વરસાદ આવી ગયો. ઘર
આંગણે ગંગા જેવા અમારા
ઘર પાસે રિધિમ દેખી.
બીજી
તારી તબીયત કેમ રહે છે?
ત્યાં જઈને કંઈ શરીર
સારું થયું? વજન કંઈ વધ્યું?
વગેરે ક્યારેક લખ તો અમને
ખ્યાલ આવે કે તું
કેવો પહેલવાન હોઈશ, તારી આખી બાંયના
સ્વેટરનું માપ મોકલજે, બાંય
ની તથા સ્વેટરની લંબાઈ
તથા છાતીની પહોળાઈ, અને કેવા રંગનું
ગમે છે એ પણ
લખજે.

તો ખાસ નવીન નથી
ત્યાં લખતો રહેજે.

તારો

મળેલો. આપસને સંગોજે જવાબ આપવામાં ઢીલ
થઈ છે. અહં અમારી
બધાની તબીયત સારી છે. ત્યાં
તમારી બધાની તારી તબીયત સારી
હશે. બીજું સારે દિવસથી ભાઈ
નાનુ અહીં આવેલ છે,
મદ્રાસથી સીધો આવ્યો છે.
હમણાંતો રોકાવાની ઈચ્છા છે. અત્યારે તમે
બેત્ર દિવસમાં પુત્ર પણ શરૂ થશે,
એટલે જોવાની મજા આવશે તમણાં
નવરાત્રી ના પ્રોગ્રામમાં રોજ
જાય છે બે ત્રણ
સખી ચંદાબેનને ઘેર ગયો છે.
વડીયાથી મુનીધવરના કાગળ આવે છે.
બા તથા બાપુજીની તબીયત
સાધારણ ગરમ છે.

Dear Hemen,
Received your letter many days ago, but in delaying from day to day, a lot of time has passed in replying. And to which address to write to you again was also a question, until two or three days ago when Nanu's letter arrived from Bangalore, which had your new address.
A few days ago, there was a letter from Manju from Vadia saying that since you passed with just passing marks, you didn't get admission over there, because of which you were deeply disappointed and were thinking of quitting studies and returning home, which is why you weren't writing letters to anyone.
If you get disheartened by such small setbacks, then later in life when your soul has to stand up against difficult situations, what will you do? You are at least fortunate enough that you didn't waste 12 years. How many people do we not see whose one or two years get wasted anyway, or who leave studies and fall into pleasures and indulgences? You should only keep up your courage; sometimes it so happens that despite our continuous effort and sincerity in studies, one can fail. And Bapu, right now you shouldn't worry about anything other than your studies. There is plenty of time left later to worry about other things, but such a time comes only rarely, and that too if one is fortunate. How much Nanu and Benchur wished to come there, but divine will was such that despite care, time was lost and he couldn't come there. Therefore, without thinking of anything else right now,
make full and proper use of the time you have received. And once every fortnight, write a letter home so that Respected Ba and Respected Bapuji do not worry.
Shri Hasmukhray came here for three days about fifteen days ago; from the Training College, the government was taking everyone to visit different regions, in which he also got a chance to visit Calcutta, so he seemed joyful and mixed with everyone like a family member.
Bhaiva's family will come here from Bangalore in October. Everyone will keep visiting this way turn by turn, so we will feel very happy. Everyone is doing well at home. Manju Raman must have come to Vadia, or perhaps gone to Model.
How is the weather over there? Here, sometimes it rains and sometimes it is hot, it keeps going like that; five days before this, it rained. Seeing the river near our house, it feels like the Ganges right at our doorstep.
Otherwise, how is your health remaining? Did your health improve after going there? Has your weight increased at all? Write about all this sometime so we get an idea of what a strongman you have become. Send the measurements for your full-sleeved sweater — length of the sleeves and the sweater, width of the chest, and also write what color you like.
Apart from this, nothing special is new. Keep writing over there.

Dear Brother Batuk,
Received your letter many days ago. Due to various circumstances, there has been a delay in replying. Here all of our health is good. Hope everyone's and your health is good over there. Further, Brother Nanu has been here for good days; he came directly from Madras. For now, he intends to stay. In two or three days, Durga Puja will also begin, so it will be fun to watch; these days he goes to Navratri programs daily, and went to Chandabahen's home two or three times. Letters keep coming from Munidhavar in Vadia. Ba and Bapuji's health is somewhat fragile/mildly unwell.
