તારા
ઘણા ખરા પત્રો ફરતાં
ફરતાં અહીં વાંચવા મળે
છે. સમયનો અભાવ છતાં હું
સમય મેળવી બધાને ને પત્ર લખું
છું પણ અમે અતિ
સમયના અભાવે પણ તને પત્ર
નથી લખી શકતા,
તારી
તબિયત સારી રહેતી હશે.
મારી તબિયત રહી બે મહીનાથી
બગડી ગઈ છે, એમાં
અહીં જેતપુરના એક વૈદ્ય છે
તેની દવા ચાલુ કરી
છે, અને તેનાથી કંઈક
ફાયદો છે, કોઈ ગેરંટી
લેતું નથી. દવા ઉપર
જ જીવન જીવવાનું નક્કી
હોય એમ લાગે છે.
સૌને જીવનમાં કોઈકનો કોઈક પ્રશ્ન હોય
જ છે જેના વગર
આપણને બેચેની લાગે, શો રીતે એ
દવાનો પ્રસંગ રાખ્યો છે, અત્યારે તો
એ વય ૨૫ છે
કદાચને આગળ જતાં છુટી
જાય તો ઇશ્વરનો ધન્યવાદ.
અહીં
અમે સો મઝામાં છીએ,
પૂ. બેનને ત્યાં પણ સો મઝામાં
છે. શૈલેષ નિશાળે જાય છે, ઘરે
માસ્તર રાખ્યા છે. બે મહીનામાં
બાળપોથી કરાવી પેહેલામાં નામ દાખલ થાય
એ માટે. બુદ્ધિશાળી ઘણો છે પણ
સાથે જરા તોફાન પણ
વધારે છે. ખાવાને નિશાળમાંથી
સંચા લાવવો પડ્યો છે.
રાજકોટ
સો મઝામાં છે, વડીયાથી રહીને
બધા રાજકોટ ગયા છે. સૌને
ત્યાં દુર થાય એ
માટે, નાનાભાઈ જેતપુર ગયા છે, અનુબેનના
પ્રકરણનો શો નિકાલ આવ્યો
એ ખબર નથી. કાનુ
પરીક્ષાની વાંચવાની તૈયારીમાં પડ્યો છે, એમાં કામકાજ
ચારુ આવે છે એમ
મોટાભાઈ લખતા હતા.
હસમુખ
મુંબઈ આવી ગયો એવા
ખબર મળ્યા છે. વિનોદને સીયરમાં
૩૫૦ ના પગારે નોકરી
મળી છે એમ સાંભળ્યું
છે. તારો વરસનો એક
પત્રનો વાડો(?) તથા મિલાપમાં છપાવવાનો
હતો કદાચ એ આવતા
મિલાપમાં આવશે તો.
રામો
શો કૉલેજમાં કેવી રીતે ઉજવ્યા
તથા ત્યાંના માણસોએ દિવાળી કઈ રીતે ઉજવી
છે, એ લખજે. તમે
દિવાળીમાં (શિકાગોની) ક્યાંય ગયા હતા કે
નહીં?
અહીં
બુલગાનિન ને ખૃશ્ચોવ ૨૫,
૨૬ માર્ચમાં અહીંગાડી આવેલા સોય ઇતિહાસ છે.
ખૃશ્ચોવ પણ કહ્યું કે
દુનિયામાં હજુ સુધી આટલી
મોટી કોઈ મિટીંગ થઈ
નથી, દોઢ મિલીયનને (૧૫
લાખ) વસ્તી હતી, છેલ્લે બુલગાનિને
વિહાઇટ કબુતર ઉડાડી શાંતિ નો સંદેશો આપ્યો.
તમારે
ત્યાં પિકચરો સેન્સુઈમાં જ આવે કે
બધા બાલ દુનિયા પણ
આવે. ટાટા પિકચર્સે આખું
આવે છે નહીં? અમે
અહીં સેન્સુઈમાં "મંગલ ઉપરની શહૂર"
તથા કુલેવર્ન નું સાગરસમ્રાટ જોયું.
હોળીમાં, જલ્દીશ, શશીયા, હસમુખીબેન, જનકજીનયુપાદવ સાથે, ૧૨૦ બચ્ચાઓ આવ્યા
અહીં પેહેલાં કરતાં પ્રમાણમાં કાંઇક ચિત્રકાર ઉતરે છે કોઈક
સુધારો થયો હોય એમ
લાગે છે.
શિયાળામાં
ત્યાં ખુબ ઠંડી પડતી
હશે, ક્યારેક ક્યારેક બરફ પણ પડતો
હશે. બરફથી આ જીવન કડાકૂટ
માણસની કરાર થઈ જાય
ત્યારે ત્યાં ખાવાના તથા વાપરવાના ચાહની
શું સગવડતા છે. ત્યાંનો વહેવાર
પણ ચોરલાઈ ગયો હશે. આપણને
અહીં જરા પણ ઠંડી
નથી, પાછળથી પડશે એને ખબર.
તારી
પરીક્ષા ક્યારે આવે વરસમાં કેટલી
પરીક્ષા આપવી પડે? વચ્ચે
સપ્ટેમ્બરમાં સેમેસ્ટર તારે દેતાં વારનું
ક્યાં માપનું મોકલું તે લખજે. તબિયત
ખરાબ હોય ત્યારે બહારના
થઈ થોડું કામ વધારે ગમે,
તો મેં જરૂર લખજે,
દેવાંગનું. દેવા ભોજાઈને અને
કેટલું માપ.

બેન ઘણા વખતથી પત્ર
લખવાનો વિચાર કરે છે, અને
હું આ પત્ર ત્યાં
મોકલાવું તો આમાં એ
લખી શકે એટલી જગ્યા
છે પણ તો પાછું
તેને મોકલવાનું અઠવાડિયું મોડું થાય, આટલા મહીના
નો નથી લખી શકાયો
પણ જ્યારે લખાયો છે તો તરત
જ રવાના કરી દઉં, ને
તો દોઢ મહીનાનો વાયદો
આપેલો જેના અમે ત્રણ
મહીના કર્યા, અમારે દિવાળીનું કાર્ડ મળેલ કે નહીં?
પત્ર
લખજે, અને ત્યાંના નૂતન
વર્ષો પણ લખતો રહેજે,
ને કઢી કેમ કરવી
એ માટે બેનીને કે
જેનને પૂછાયેલ તો કદાચ બેનીએ
ત્યાંથી તને લખ્યું હશે,
તે છતાં થોડુંક હું
જાતે લખી દઉં, કઢી
માટે ચણાનો લોટ ન મળે
તો કોઈ પણ કઠોળની
દાળનો લોટ અને છેવટે
બાજરા કે સોડાબીન્સ નો
લોટ પણ ચાલે, જો
કે ચણાના લોટ જેવો સ્વાદ
તો આમાં આવે ન
છતાં ચાલી શકે. છાશ
વધારે ખાટી હોય અને
સાથે ગળપણ પણ હોય
એટલે વાંધો ન આવે.
સીમળાની
સુકવણી મોકલાવશે કે નહીં, અહીંથી
પણ કંઈ જોયું હોય
તો લખજે. પોસ્ટપાર્સલથી કોઈ પણ વસ્તુ
મોકલી શકાય છે.

Dear Brother Hemen,
Most of your letters are read here after circulating around. Despite the lack of time, I find time to write letters to everyone, but due to an extreme lack of time, we haven't been able to write to you.
Hope your health is remaining good. My health has been deteriorated for two months; in that regard, I have started medication from a Vaidya (Ayurvedic doctor) here in Jetpur, and there is some relief from it, though no one takes a guarantee. It feels as if life is meant to be lived on medicines alone. Everyone has some problem or the other in life without which we feel uneasy; somehow this arrangement of medicine has been kept. Currently, the age is 25; if it clears up as time goes by, then thanks to God.
We are all fine here, and everyone is fine at Respected Sister's place too. Shailesh goes to school; a tutor has been hired at home to cover the primer (Balpothi) in two months so his name can be enrolled in the first standard. He is very intelligent, but at the same time, a bit too mischievous. To eat, a grinder/machine had to be brought from school.
Everyone in Rajkot is fine; after staying in Vadia, everyone went to Rajkot so that things get resolved for everyone over there. Younger brother went to Jetpur; don't know what resolution came out of Anubahen's matter. Kanu is engaged in reading/preparing for exams; Elder Brother was writing that work is going on well in that.
News has been received that Hasmukh has arrived in Mumbai. Heard that Vinod got a job at Sears at a salary of 350. Your annual letter fence/installment (?) and something that was supposed to be printed in Milap—perhaps it will come in the upcoming issue of Milap.
Write about how Ramos etc. celebrated in college and how the people over there celebrated Diwali. Did you go anywhere for Diwali (in Chicago) or not?
Bulganin and Khrushchev came here on 25th, 26th March; that is history in itself. Khrushchev also said that such a massive meeting has never happened in the world so far—there was a crowd/population of 1.5 million (15 lakhs). In the end, Bulganin released white pigeons and gave a message of peace.
Over there, do movies come only in Sansui or does the whole children's world also come? Tata Pictures comes entirely, right? Here in Sansui we watched "Mangal Parni Shahur" and Jules Verne's Sagar Samrat. On Holi, Jagdish, Shashiya, Hasmukhibahen, along with Janakjinupadav, 120 kids came here; compared to before, painting/artistry seems somewhat diminished, looks like some change has occurred.
It must be falling very cold there in winter, sometimes it must be snowing as well. When a person settles down amidst all this hassle with snow, what facilities are there for eating and tea usage over there? The daily routine/conduct there must have also become stolen/altered. We have no cold here at all; what happens later, who knows.
When do your exams take place, and how many exams do you have to give in a year? In between, for your semester in September, write what measurements I should send for your sweater/garment. When health is bad, doing a little extra work from outside feels good; so if needed, do write about Devang's... how much measurement for Deva and sister-in-law.
Respected Sister has been thinking of writing a letter for a long time, and if I send this letter over there, there is enough space in this for her to write, but then sending it to you would get delayed by a week. A letter couldn't be written for so many months, but now that it is written, I am dispatching it immediately; otherwise, a promise of one and a half months was given, which we turned into three months. Did you receive our Diwali card or not?
Do write a letter, and keep writing about the New Year over there as well. Regarding how to make Kadhi, Beni or Jen was asked, so perhaps Beni might have written to you from there; nevertheless, let me write a little myself. For Kadhi, if gram flour (besan) is not available, flour of any pulse/legume, and ultimately flour of millet (bajra) or soda beans will also work; though it won't have the taste like gram flour, it can manage. If the buttermilk is sour enough and there is sweetness added, then there won't be a problem.
Will they send dried Silk-Cotton (Simla) products or not? If you have seen anything from here, do write. Any item can be sent by postal parcel.
