તારો
પત્ર હમણાં એક કલાક પહેલાં
જ મળ્યો વાંચીને આનંદ થયો આશ્ચર્ય
પણ થયું કે મેં
ક્યા પત્રનો ઉત્તર નહિ આપ્યો હોય?
તારા પત્રથી જાણ્યું કે નવેમ્બર સુધી
બધી સ્ટીમરો ફૂલ છે અને
મને પણ તે સહેજ
ચિંતામાં મૂકી દીધો, કારણ
કે મેં Manchester, Salford and
Aachen (Germany) application કરી
છે તેમાંથી Manchester નો ઉત્તર આવી
ગયો છે કે you are too late for this session and
further admission has been stopped. Salford તથા
Aachen ના ઉત્તરની કાગ ડોળે પ્રતીક્ષા
કરું છું. સાથે સાથે
પુ. કાકાના પત્રની પણ હવે તો
હદ ઉપરાંત રાહ જોવી પડે
છે. પહેલાં તો ઉત્તર આપવામાં
તેઓ ખૂબ જ Regular હતાં
પરંતુ હમણાંથી કાંઈ ખબર પડતી
નથી મનમાં આવે ત્યારે ફુરસદે
પત્ર લખે છે. Aachen માટે
તેમને જ મને Application ફોર્મ
મોકલ્યું હતું અને તે
University સુંદર છે તેમ જણાવ્યું
હતું. જો હું ત્યાં
દાખલ થાઉં તો જ્યાં
સુધી હું અભ્યાસ કરીશ
ત્યાં સુધી તેઓ તરફથી
જ મારો વીમો ઉતરાવવામાં
આવશે તથા ડોક્ટરી ખર્ચમાં
પણ ૬૦% તેઓ ભરશે
વગેરે ખાતરી કાકાએ આપેલી હતી પણ જ્યાં
સુધી ઉત્તર ન આવે ત્યાં
સુધી કાંઈ જ સમજ
પડે તેમ નથી કપડા
સીવડાવવા Passage Book કરાવવો વગેરે અનેક પૂર્વ તૈયારીઓમાં
ઘણો ધાંધલ થશે. અત્યારે તો
હું આખો દિવસ લગા
ભગ ૨ કલાકની સર્વિસ
મીલમાં તથા માર્કેટમાં આપું
છું. ઘરના લગભગ ૮-૮:૩૦ વાગે
અહીંથી નીકળી માંડુગમાં મીલ શરૂ કરી
છે તેમાં જાઉં છું. ત્યાંથી
લગભગ ૪-૪:૩૦
વાગે નીકળી વરલી મીલમાંથી મારા
પૂ. પિતાશ્રીને લઈને માર્કેટમાં (જીવજી
જેઠા) જાઉં છું અને
ત્યાંથી લગભગ ૭:૩૦-૮ વાગે નીકળી
દાદર પૂ. માતૃશ્રીને મળીને
રાત્રે લગભગ ૮:૩૦-૯ વાગે સાયન
આવી જાઉં થોડુંક કામ
હોય તો તે પતાવી
વાંચી સૂઈ જાઉં છું.
આ પ્રમાણેનો હમણાં તો મારો પૂરા
દિવસનો કાર્યક્રમ
રહે
છે. Foreign થી "હા" કે "ના" નો ઉત્તર આવી
જાય તો જલ્દી ફેંસલો
થઈ જાય. આતો આખો
દિવસ તેનાં વિચાર જ મન પરોવાયેલું
રહે છે. અને અહીંના
કામમાં પણ પૂરૂ ધ્યાન
દેવાતું નથી.
મેં
હજી ઘરમાં Foreign જવા માટેના મારા
વિચારની વાત કોઈને જ
કરી નથી. ફક્ત મારા
પૂ. પિતાશ્રી તથા પૂ. માતૃશ્રી
અને સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં મારા પૂ. જયંતીમામા
જાણે છે હા ! એક
વાત તો ભૂલી ગયો
હું સૌરાષ્ટ્ર માં ૩૦ તારીખથી
૪.૯.૫૫ સુધીની
flying visit મારી ગયો. એક દિવસનો
તારે ત્યાં Rajkot આવવાનો પણ અહીંથી નીકળ્યો
ત્યાં સુધી તો Programme હતો
પરંતુ મારા પૂ. પુનામામાની
સાથે તે દિવસ ભાવનગરમાં
ગાળવો પડ્યો. એટલે ત્યાં આવી
શક્યો નહિ તો માફ
કરજે. અહીં આવવાની ઉતાવળ
પણ મારે ખૂબ જ
હતી કારણ કે મારા
પૂ. જયંતીમામા અહીં આવેલ અને
મારે ન છૂટકે ત્યાં
આવવાનું થયું એટલે જલ્દી
પતાવીને પાછો અહીં આવી
ગયો. કારણ કે તેઓ
પાછા બે ત્રણ દિવસમાં
જ સુરેન્દ્રનગર જવાના હતાં. આ પાંચ દિવસની
ટૂંકમાં ત્યાં ગામો ફર્યો- સુરેન્દ્રનગર
- પાલીતાણા - ભાવનગર - લીમડી - સાબરમતી.
મારા
પૂ. પિતાશ્રી તથા પૂ. માતૃશ્રીની
પૂરી સંમતિ પછી જ મેં
application આપી છે પણ જ્યાં
સુધી હા નો જવાબ
ન આવે ત્યાં સુધી
કોઈને પણ આ વાત
હું કહેવા ઈચ્છતો નથી. હા ! મારો
પાસપોર્ટ તો તૈયાર છે
ફક્ત મેડીકલ સર્ટીફીકેટમાં પણ Cholera નું injection જ લેવું પડે
તેમ છે બીજા સર્ટીફી
કેટો પણ હજી force માં
છે. અત્યારે તો હું એવી
ઈચ્છા રાખું છું કે મારો
જો admission નો જવાબ આવશે
તો તારી સાથે જ
હું આવીશ, મને તથા તને
ઠીક પડશે કેમ ખરૂંને
? મારી વાતો તો બધી
તરંગી છે પણ તારી
તો definite વાતો છે એટલે
તેના જ વિષે હવે
વાતો કરીએ. જો તું ૧૫
ઓગસ્ટના દિવસે જવાનો હોય તો હું
ધારું છું કે તારે
હવે ટૂંક સમયમાં જ
મુંબઈ આવી અહીંના બજારો
ઘૂમવા મંડી જવું જોઈએ
અને
જરૂરી ખરીદી કરી લેવી જોઈએ.
કપડાં સિવડાવવા હોય તો પણ
મારો એક દરજી ખૂબ
જ સારી અને વ્યાજબી
ભાવે સીલાઈ કરી આપશે. ગયા
વર્ષે મી. મહેતા (મારા
મિત્ર) લંડન ગયા ત્યારે
તેમના સઘળાં કપડાં તેની પાસે કરાવ્યા
હતાં. સારો કટર છે.
અને પરદેશ જવા વાળાને ટાઈમની
કેટલી મારા મારી રહે
છે તે તો હું
સારી રીતે જાણું છું
કારણ કે ગયા વર્ષે
મેં પૂ. જગદીશકાકાને તે
સ્થિતિમાં જોયા હતાં કે
જો હું મારા ધાર્યા
પ્રમાણે ભૂલ્યો નહિ હોય. આખો
દિવસ ખરીદીમાં ક્યાં જતો રહે છે
તે પણ ખ્યાસ નથી
રહેતો. ઠીક ત્યારે આટલું
જણાવ્યા પછી તો તું
જલ્દી જ આવવા પ્રયત્ન
કરીશ તેમ ઈચ્છું છું.
ક્યા દિવસે સ્ટેશન પર કે Aerodrome પર
આવું તે જરૂર જણાવજે
અને તેમાં જો ભૂલ કરીશ
તો ...........
હું
લખે છે કે તારે
ત્યાં આવવાનું છે એ વાત
નક્કી જ છે. પણ
ભાઈ, મેં કયે દિવસે
તેનો ઈન્કાર કર્યો છે. મેં તો
સામેથી તને ગયા પત્રમાં
જ લખ્યું હતું કે તું
ત્યાં જઈને મારા માટે
service ગોતીને મને જણાવજે એટલે
જરૂર હું ત્યાં આવીશ
અને Practical Training
પણ કોઈ મીલમાં લઈશ.
પણ તું ત્યાં પહોંચ્યા
પછી જ આ બધી
વાતો અમલમાં આવે તેમ છે.
અત્યારે તો દિલમાં અનેક
તરંગો ઉત્પન્ન થાય છે અને
પ્રભુ પાસે પ્રાર્થના કરું
છું કે તે તરંગો
વાસ્તવિક બની તેનો ખરો
આનંદ મને મળે. હું
તો ધારું છું કે world Tour ના
આપણા Plan નો આ પહેલો
તબક્કો છે અને તેની
શરૂઆત પણ ખૂબ જ
સુંદર રીતે મારા ધારવા
પ્રમાણે થાય છે. કેમ
તારું શું માનવું છે?
હાલ રોજ રણછોડ હમણાં
મળ્યો હતો તો યાદ
કરે છે. હવે વહેલો
આ તરફ આવવાનું કરજે
બધા મિત્રો તથા સગા સબંધીને
મળવામાં જ તારો મારા
ભાગનો સમય જશે! ઠીક
ત્યારે પત્રનો જવાબ ગમે ત્યારે
ટાઈમ કાઢીને તુરત આપજે.

Received your letter just an hour ago; delighted to read it and also surprised as to which letter of yours I hadn't replied to! Learned from your letter that all steamers are full until November, and that has put me in a bit of concern as well, because I have applied to Manchester, Salford, and Aachen (Germany). Out of these, the reply from Manchester has arrived stating: "you are too late for this session and further admission has been stopped." I am eagerly awaiting the replies from Salford and Aachen with bated breath. At the same time, I now have to wait beyond limits for respected Kaka's letter too. Earlier, he was very regular in replying, but lately, I don't know what's wrong; he writes a letter at his leisure whenever it strikes his mind.
For Aachen, he himself had sent me the application form and mentioned that the university is wonderful. Kaka had assured me that if I get admitted there, my insurance will be taken care of by them as long as I study, and they will also cover 60% of medical expenses, etc. But until a reply arrives, nothing can be figured out. Getting clothes stitched, getting a passage booked, and various other preliminary preparations will involve a lot of rush. Currently, I give about 2 hours of service in a mill and in the market throughout the day. Leaving home around 8:00–8:30 AM, I go to Mandvi where the mill has started. Leaving there around 4:00–4:30 PM, I pick up my respected father from the Worli mill and go to the market (Jivji Jetha). Leaving from there around 7:30–8:00 PM, I meet my respected mother in Dadar and reach Sion around 8:30–9:00 PM at night. If there is a little work, I finish it, read, and go to sleep. This is my full daily schedule currently.
If a "yes" or "no" answer comes from abroad, a quick decision can be made. Otherwise, the mind remains occupied with those thoughts all day long, and full attention cannot be paid to the work here either.
I haven't mentioned my thought of going abroad to anyone at home yet. Only my respected father, respected mother, and my respected Jayantimama in Surendranagar know. Ah! I forgot one thing—I went on a 5-day flying visit to Saurashtra from the 30th to 4-9-55. Up until I left from here, the plan was to visit your place in Rajkot for a day, but I had to spend that day in Bhavnagar with my respected Punamama, so I couldn't come there; please forgive me. I was also in a great hurry to return here because my respected Jayantimama had come here, and I had to go there out of necessity, so I finished quickly and came back here, as he was to return to Surendranagar in just two or three days. In these short five days, I toured several towns—Surendranagar - Palitana - Bhavnagar - Limbdi - Sabarmati.
I submitted the application only after full consent from my respected father and respected mother, but until a response of "yes" arrives, I do not wish to tell this to anyone. Yes! My passport is ready; only a cholera injection needs to be taken for the medical certificate, while other certificates are still in force. Currently, I hold the wish that if my admission response comes through, I will travel along with you; it will be convenient for both me and you, isn't that true? All my talk is imaginative, but yours is definite, so let's talk about that now. If you are leaving on August 15th, I suppose you should come to Mumbai shortly and start roaming the markets here to make the necessary purchases. Even if you want to get clothes stitched, a tailor of mine will stitch them very well and at a reasonable rate. Last year when Mr. Mehta (my friend) went to London, all his clothes were made by him. He is a good cutter.
And I know very well how much of a time crunch people going abroad face, because last year I saw respected Jagdishkaka in that situation—if my memory serves me right. One doesn't even realize where the whole day goes during shopping. Well then, having informed you this much, I hope you will try to come soon. Do let me know on which day I should come to the station or aerodrome, and if you make a mistake in that, then ..........
You write that your coming over there is definite. But my friend, on which day have I denied it? I had written to you from my end in the last letter itself that after going there, find a job for me and inform me, so I will definitely come there and also take practical training in some mill. But all these things can be put into practice only after you reach there. Currently, many thoughts arise in the heart, and I pray to God that those thoughts become reality and I get to experience their true joy. I believe this is the first stage of our World Tour plan, and its start is happening wonderfully according to my expectation. What is your view on this? Ranchhod met me recently and sends his regards. Now make arrangements to come to this side early; your time share with me will be spent just meeting all friends and relatives! Well then, take out time whenever possible and reply to the letter promptly.
