ચિ. ભાઈ બટુક. વિ. તા. ૨૦/૩ નો તારો પત્ર આજે ૨૧ ~ સેટે થઈને અત્રે મળ્યો. વાંચી આનંદ અને સંતોષ. તેં પહેલાંનો Thesis ની outline ની કોપી વાળો પત્ર પણ મળી ગયો છે. અને તેનો જવાબ પણ લખાઈ ગયો છે, જે તને મળી ગયો હશે. તારા અભ્યાસ અર્થે કંઈ નો પ્રોગ્રેસ રીપોર્ટ જાણીને ઘણો જ સંતોષ થાય છે પરંતુ તને mental strain ઘણો પડતો હશે જે વધુ પડતો ન થઈ જવા પામે. તે માટે rest & recreation ની જરૂર પણ એટલી જ અગત્યની છે. સાથે સાથે સાન્વી(?) અને પૌષ્ટિક ખોરાક પુરતો લેતા રહેવાની કાળજી રાખજે તારા લખ્યા મુજબ તારી oral Exam મથોડી સિવાય તો તો ઘણું સરસ. તમને સૌન પણ એવી ચિંતા રહે છે પ્રભુને પ્રાર્થના કરીએ કે પણ કૃપાળુ પરમાત્મા તને તેમાં જરૂર સહાય કરે. બીજું તને ૨૧ ~ સેટમાં ખબર મળી ગયા હશે કે તને પ્રીતિયા(?) ખરીદવા ડોલર માટે મુંબઈ Am. Exp. વાળા ને રૂા. ૨૦૦૦/- બે હજાર પરિયા વત્તા તેનાં ડોલર તે લોકો તને તાત્કાલીક મોકલી શક્યા નહિ કારણ કે તારી ડોલર પરમીટ નો સમય ગયા ફેબ્રુઆરીમાં Expire થઈ ગયેલ. તેથી તેને Revalidate કિરવા માટે પાછી આપેલ. અને તેમ કરીને જૂની મુંબઈ Am. Exp. વાળા ને ભલામણ આપવા માટે Reserve Bank ને લખી નાખેલ છે. અને ભાઈ દેવભાઈ મુંબઈ છે. એટલે તેને પણ ખબર લખી નાખ્યા છે કે આ બાબતમાં Am. Exp. નાં થઈને તુર્ત તપાસ કરે. આ કારણસર તને ધાર્યા કરતાં મો. પખવાડિયું ડોલર મળતા મળશે પરંતુ માનું છું કે આ પત્ર મળતા સુધીમાં તને મળી ગયા હોવા જોઈએ. થોડા મળોડા માટે તો ૫૦ $ ની ત્યાં આગળ તારા ભાઈ પાસે. ન્યુયોર્ક કે કરી લઈ શકાય તો સારું નહીંતર દેવીદાસને કેગાર આપિયા પડશે ત્યાં સુખલાલનું સરનામું હોય તો રેડીયોને મેળવી લેવા પ્રયત્ન કરજે તેનો સંપર્ક સાધી ને અપની પાસેથી મેળવી લેવા પ્રયત્ન કરજે તદુપરાંત Philadelphia નાં અહીંયાનાં દરબાર શ્રી વોરાવાળાં સાહેબ અને તેમનાં રાણી એમની પધરામણી business Organisation નાં અભ્યાસ અર્થે ગયા છે. તો એમનું સરનામું મોકલું ને તને રાજી જ લાગશે. અને અહિયાં થી એમના સુરેન્દ્રથી આ અધીબાઈ બેંક મારફતે મંગાઈ લખાશે. કે જો તારા તરફથી ડોલર માટે ૫૭ આપ્યો $ ૧૦૦/- અથવા તને બેન્ક મારફત mail transfer એ પહેલા જ આપે ને ઉપરાંત

 

અહિયાંનાં આપણું દશાશ્રીમાળી જ્ઞાતિનાં એક વિધાર્થી ભાઈ શાંતિલાલ. માનસંગ મનદાર પણ ફિલાડેલ્ફીયા ની યુનિ માં M.S મીકેનીકલ એન્જીનીયરીંગનો કોર્સ કરવા માટે વનેશાશીયા(?) ત્યાં ગયા છે તો એમનાં મોટા ભાઈ મારફતે પણ, જે તને જરૂર હોય. અને તારા તરફથી પત્ર આવે — અને એમની પાસે time being વધારે હોય તો લોન તરીકે તને $ ૫૦ કે ૧૦૦ mail transfer એ તારી બેંકમાં તારા ખાતામાં ત્યાં શિખવવા શિલામણ આપે. જો બબ્બે સુધી તો ને વખત નહીં આવે ત્યાં સુધીમાં તો તને Am. Exp. વાળા તરફથી તારી બેંકમાં mail transfer intimation આવી જશે. બીજું— શ્રી મનુભાઈ શાહે દિલ્હી તારા માટે માર્ગદર્શન આપવા માટે પત્ર લખેલ છે — તેના તરફથી જવાબ આવશે એટલે તને અભિપ્રાય આપીશું. અને તારો કોર્સ પૂરો થયા પછી ભવિષ્યમાં કે આપણી સાથે પત્ર ધ્વારા સીધા સંપર્કમાં રહે તેવું ગોઠવણ પણ કરેલ. શ્રી મનુભાઈ શાહ. આ વિભાગમાં છે એટલે કે મધ્ય સૌરાષ્ટ્ર નાં સભ્ય તરીકે સત્તા. (parliament) ની બેઠક માટે મારી જઈ હતી ને મુંબઇ આવ્યા છે. અને તેના સાથીઓ ભારત સરકાર ના મોટા ઉદ્યોગ Heavy Industries નું તે જાણુ આપણાં છે તેમ જાના ઉપર જનતા સુધી નથી કેબીનની રચના પછી રહેવાનાં ફેરફાર થશે તો તને જણાવીશ. અને તમન શૈલેન્દ્ર શાહ ની તબીયત ઘણી સારી છે બધ્ધા આનંદમાં છે તા. મનુભાઈ જનતા સુધી આ તે જોંગાર(?) નું રાજકોટ આવી પહોંચશે. અને પિતરાઈ શ્રી અમૃતલાલ તથા શાં. પુષ્પા બહેને આવતી પિતરાઈ. ૨૭૩ નાં પિતરાઈ રવાના થશે અને તા. ૫ જ નાં આવી પહોંચશે. લાડુ અને બાકી દુકાળ, આપણું તારે વધારે પડતું કામ હોવાથી પત્રો લખવા નું મર્યાદિત રાખજે. આશીર્વાદ રૂ. બાજુનાં શુભાશીષ.

તમારો પત્ર મળ્યો વાંચી ઘણો આનંદ થયો. મારી પરિક્ષા પૂરી થઈ ગઈ છે આવતી કાલે મને અહીં રીઝલ્ટ મળશે. જનતા સુધી ફર્સ્ટ ક્લાસ માર્ક મળવા જોઈએ. તમારી પણ ત્યાં પરિક્ષા આવી ગઈ હશે, સારા માર્કે પાસ થશો એવી શુભેચ્છા અહીં હું બે ત્રણ દિવસ રોકાઈ ને રાજકોટ પાછો જતો રહીશ. બેન વગેરે સોમવારે આવે છે પછી જઈશ હવે હું મેટ્રીક માં આવ્યો તમારી

 

જેમ નામના કાઢવાની ઈચ્છા છે. મહેનત કરીશ. ત્યાં તમારા મિત્રો ને સ્મરણ અહીં બધા આનંદ માં છે. હાલ એજ ત્યાંના નવીન લખશો.

તારો પત્ર આજે વાંચી આનંદ થયો છે ઇમરાણ તારી પરીક્ષા વિષે અમને ચિંતા રહેતી હતી પરંતુ પ્રભુ કૃપાથી બધા સારા વાના થઈ રહેશે એજી અમે રોજ રાત્રે પાઠ પૂજા કરીએ છીએ એ ત્યારે ત્યારે પ્રાર્થના કરીએ છીએ તને પાર ઉતાર રે ને અહીં ભેળો ભેળો આવી જા બેબી રોજ બેચાર ભજનો પણ બોલે થોડા નવા રાગ નાનુભાઈ માસ્તર પાસેથી શીખે છે આ વરસ મારી તબીયત સારી રહે છે બેન લાગે રે સોમવારે આવી જશે અહીં બધા તને યાદ કરે છે જવાબ ઇમરાણ પરીક્ષાને લઈને મોડો બખાડતો વાંધો નહિ છે

Dear Brother Batuk,

Greetings. Received your letter dated 20/3 today via 21~Set. Read with great joy and satisfaction. Your earlier letter containing a copy of the Thesis outline was also received, and its reply was sent as well, which you must have received by now.

Hearing about the progress report regarding your studies brings immense satisfaction; however, you must be experiencing significant mental strain. Ensure it does not become overwhelming. Rest and recreation are equally important. At the same time, take care to consume a nutritious and wholesome diet. As you wrote, if your oral exam goes smoothly, it will be wonderful. We all hold such concern for you here and pray to the Lord that the Almighty God surely assists you in this.

Secondly, you must have learned through 21~Set that Rs. 2000/- (two thousand rupees) plus dollar conversion were sent to Am. Exp. in Mumbai to purchase funds for you. They could not send the dollars immediately because your dollar permit expired last February. Therefore, it was submitted back for revalidation. Having done that, the Reserve Bank has been written to for recommending old Mumbai Am. Exp. Brother Devbhai is in Mumbai, so he has also been informed to check with Am. Exp. right away regarding this matter.

For this reason, receiving the dollars will be delayed by about a fortnight beyond expectation, but I believe they should reach you by the time you receive this letter. For any short gap, if $50 can be arranged through your brother in New York, that would be good; otherwise, Devidas might need to be cabled. If you have Sukhlal's address there, try to contact him to get assistance.

Furthermore, Darbar Shri Vorawala Sahib from here and his Queen have arrived in Philadelphia to study Business Organisation. I will send their address, which you will be pleased to receive. Recommendations will be requested through Adhibai Bank via Surendra here so that if you need dollars, $100 could be provided or sent via bank mail transfer even before that.

Additionally, a student brother from our Dasha Shrimali community here, Shantilal Manasang Mandar, has gone to the University of Philadelphia for an M.S. course in Mechanical Engineering. Through his elder brother, if you have a need and write to them—and if they have extra funds for the time being—a loan of $50 or $100 could be mail-transferred into your bank account on recommendation. It likely won't take two weeks before mail transfer intimation from Am. Exp. arrives at your bank.

Secondly, Shri Manubhai Shah wrote a letter from Delhi to provide guidance for you; once a reply arrives from him, we will give you our feedback. Arrangements have also been made so that after your course completion, he remains in direct contact with us via letters. Shri Manubhai Shah is in this department, representing Central Saurashtra as a member (Parliament) for the session, and has come to Mumbai. He and his colleagues represent Heavy Industries of the Government of India. I will inform you if there are changes in living arrangements after the Cabinet formation.

Shailendra Shah's health is very good, and everyone is doing well. Shri Manubhai will reach Rajkot by Janta. Cousin Shri Amritlal and Sister Pushpa will depart on 27/3 and arrive on the 5th. Aside from work and scarcity, restrict writing long letters as you have extra workload.

Received your letter and was delighted to read it. My examinations are over, and tomorrow I will receive the results here. Should get First Class marks. Your exams must be approaching there as well; best wishes to pass with good marks! I will stay here for two or three days before returning to Rajkot. Sister and others arrive on Monday, after which I will leave. Now that I have entered Matriculation,

...I wish to make a name like you. I will work hard. Give my regards to your friends there. Everyone here is doing well. Write about any new updates over there.

Dear Brother Batuk,

Read your letter today with joy. We were worried about your exams, but by God's grace everything will turn out well. We perform daily prayers every night and pray that He sees you through and brings you back to us smoothly. Baby sings two or four hymns daily and is learning a few new tunes from Nanubhai Master. My health has been good this year. Sister will likely arrive on Monday. Everyone here remembers you. Do not worry if your reply gets delayed due to exams.
