Brother Shantibhai M. Koticha....... Ann-Arbor
Best blessings from Chunilal Parekh of Vadia.
Hope you are doing well. Your studies must be progressing smoothly, and you must have settled in quite well by now. Writing this letter to you due to a specific matter.
You received a letter regarding trade/business from your brother Shri Jaysukhbhai in America. If my Dear Brother Shri Hemendrabhai (who is studying at the University of Lawrence, Kansas) contacts you with this letter, please send $180 (or $100) via mail transfer to his account under the name of Hemendra C. Parekh at his bank, First National Bank – Lawrence-Kansas, immediately upon receipt of this letter.
The reason for troubling you with this request is that we (from Rajkot) sent Rs. 2000/- through American Express in Mumbai to convert into dollars and send to Hemendrabhai. However, a reply arrived from them stating that the permit duration has expired, and it has been submitted to the Reserve Bank for renewal. Naturally, completing this formal process will take about a fortnight. To ensure Hemendrabhai is not inconvenienced or left waiting for dollars during this delay, we had to trouble you.
Furthermore, coming into contact on this occasion allows both you and Hemendrabhai to stay in touch by letter and be helpful to each other if the need arises in the future. Whatever dollar amount you send him, if you do not require it over there, I will hand over the equivalent rupees to Shri Jaysukhbhai here. Otherwise, Brother Hemendra will check and send that amount back to your account via mail transfer from his bank there. Please write a reply back. Take good care of your health.
Best wishes and blessings from Chunilal Parekh

Dear Brother Batuk,
You must have received my previous letter, and subsequently, you must have received the pocket/parcel sent by that brother on 20-20-56.
Due to confusion regarding your permit renewal arrangements, sending your remittance was delayed. Harsukhbhai and I went to Mumbai and met the officer in the Exchange Dept. of the Reserve Bank. The officer clarified that there is no issue other than routine processing, and they will send the permit sanction within a week—meaning you will receive the dollars a fortnight later than expected.
To ensure you face no difficulty during this interim period, I am enclosing a letter addressed to Brother Shantilal Koticha. Tear off the upper portion of the letter addressed to him and send it to him at the address written below along with your own letter. Brother Shantilal will then immediately send you $100 for your prompt use.

Write a separate letter to him at the above address, send it along, and write to let us know his explanation and how many dollars he provides. If he does not need the dollars back there, we will hand over the equivalent rupees to Brother Jaysukhbhai here.
Secondly, a letter has arrived from Manubhai in Delhi. The brothers have gone to Rangoon for a week to advise the Burma Government on industrial development. Brother Surendra and everyone else are doing well. Everyone in Rajkot is fine too. Jentrabhai and others, Anubhai has arrived, Lalitbhai and everyone were asking after you, and Shri Amritlal arrived here on April 17th. Sister Chanda and Shri Bhogilal are healthy in Calcutta. Write to let us know whether your oral exam went well or not.
Take proper care of your health. Ensure you do not strain yourself too much, maintain a wholesome and positive diet, and spend some time in recreation now and then.
Best blessings from everyone.
Date 6-4-57 Saturday - Vadia
Dear Brother Hemendra,
We have arrived here; all of our health is good. Shailesh remembers you very much. Sister Chanda and Bhogilal are doing great in Calcutta. Hope your health is good. Write and tell us how much weight you have gained over there compared to here!
Next-door Tarachandbhai remembers you fondly and keeps asking when you will return. After you arrive, he will put special effort into finding a job for you—he is already paying a lot of attention to it. We are staying here for two and a half to three months, during which I will write to you again. Your studies must be going well. It is quite hot here; over there, temperature won't be an issue at all.
Mother's (Ba) and Father's (Bapuji) health is good. If you want Kathakali, Manipuri, or Kutchhi handicrafts/dolls over there, write to Sister Chanda—she is currently engaged in making them, and they turn out very nice. Do write letters.
With warm regards from your sister.
Batuk Mama, we are always thinking of you just as you remember us.
Jai Gopal from Sister and everyone.
Chunilal. K. Parekh.
