ચિ. તમારી તા. ૨૫/૧૨ નો પત્ર ત્રણ ચાર દિવસ પહેલાં મળ્યો. વાંચી વિગત જાણી.

શ્રી વલસાડ વાળા કિશોરલાલ ભાઈની પુત્રીના સંબંધમાં તા. ૨૫મીએ ખોરાદશને લખેલા પત્રનો જવાબ હજુ સુધી આપના તરફથી મળ્યો નથી, એમને આપ(શું) છેવટ બિંદુ સપલન કીધું તે સારૂં કર્યું. આ કુટુંબની માહિતી મેળવવા માટે રાજકોટ ચિ. તા. અનિલ તથા સૌ. બહેન ઇન્દુને પત્ર લખેલ છે. એમના તરફથી શું ખુલાસો આવશે તે જોઈશું.

જૂનાગઢ વાળા શ્રી જયંતિલાલભાઈને ત્યાંથી આપનાં બરોડા કુટુંબને તો આપણે સારી રીતે ઓળખીએ છીએ. કુટુંબ ઘણું ખાનદાન છે. માણસો સારા, સજ્જન અને નરમ છે. મારો તેમ જ તમારા માતુશ્રીનો મત એવો છે કે સાવ અજાણ્યામાં ન પડવું. ગઈકાલે મુંબઈથી રા.રા. શ્રી ઇન્દુભાઈ ગઠારીયાના તરફથી શ્રી જયંતિલાલભાઈ શાહની પુત્રી ઊર્મિલા (ઉંમર વર્ષ ૨૧) નું સગપણ તમારી સાથે કરવા માટે પેગ આવ્યા છે. અને એમના પત્રની સાથે શ્રી જયંતિલાલ શાહનો આખો ઉપરનો પત્ર વાંચવા બીડેલ છે. કન્યા વિષે તે પત્રમાં શ્રી જયંતિલાલજી પ્રશંસા લખે છે. ઊર્મિલાની ઉંમર વર્ષ ૨૧ની છે - અભ્યાસ મુંબઈની રુઈયા કોલેજમાં B.A. સુધીનો લીધેલ છે. અને અત્યારે ઘરકામની બધી તાલીમ (વેરાવળમાં તેવા સો રહે છે ત્યાં) લીધે છે. સીવણ ગુંથણ, ભણવા કેળવણી બધું ઘણું સારું શીખેલ છે અને કહે છે ઘરકામમાં પણ હોશિયાર છે. વિશેષ કંઈ વિગત જોઈતી હોય તો પૂછાવશો.

આ પેગા આપના તરફથી પેગ આવ્યા પ્રથમ તો, આ કન્યા વિષેની માહિતી indirectly મેળવી લેવા ધારે. વેરાવળમાં રહેતા શ્રી ચુનીલાલ ગાંધી (ગંગાધારાવાળા ફઈના નાનાભાઈ) અને આપનાં પત્ની શ્રી મણી બહેન જે વેરાવળમાં મહિલા મંડળ ચલાવે છે. આપને પત્ર લખીને મંગાવી લઈશું. અને એ માહિતી બધી રીતે અનુકૂળતાવાળી હશે તો તમને લખી જણાવીશ. અને ત્યારબાદ ચિ. જયંતિલાલભાઈ શાહની માંગણી મુજબ કન્યાની શોધીશોધ કરવા કાજ ધારે તો એગો સ્વીકાર કરીશું.

 

અમને લાગે છે કે એ બધી દ્રષ્ટીથી તપાસતા આ કન્યા બરાબર ઠરશે. આ કુટુંબ સાથે સગપણ જોડાવા દર્શન કરું. જો કે કન્યાનો અભ્યાસ B.A. સુધીનો બતાવે છે તો કદાચ B.A.ની પરીક્ષા આપી નહીં હોય - પરંતુ તે બાબત ગૌણ ગણવી.

શ્રી ચુનીલાલ સંઘાણીની ભાણેજની બાબતમાં મોરારભાઈએ મને વાત કરી હતી. પરંતુ ચુનીલાલ તે દિવસો રેલ્વે લાઈને મુંબઈ આવ્યા નહોતા. પરંતુ તેમ જાણવા મળ્યો તેમ એ તો રાજકોટ ચાલ્યા ગયા હશે. અને આ વિષેમાં આપનાં તરફથી પણ પત્ર આવવો જોઈએ. હવે આપના આ બાબતે શું વિચારો છે? ક્યાંના છે? શું કુટુંબ છે? વગેરે લીગલ જાણ્યા પછી આગળ વિચાર કરું.

બીજું. ચિ. બહેન જ્યોતિ માટે ચિ. રમણિકભાઈએ મોકલેલા છોકરા વિષે મારો ભાઈ સેવંતી સી.નો પત્ર કદાચ ખૂટી ગયો હશે - તો તમને ચિ. રમણિકભાઈની મુલાકાત થાય અથવા ફોન ઉપર મળી શકો તો એમને ભૂરખીયા અંગેની બધી માહિતી મેળવી તમને લખી જણાવે તેમ કરશો અહિયાંથી હું પણ એમને પત્ર લખું છું.

બીજું. તમારા નવા અને જ્યોતિ અંગેની વિગત વાંચી તમારી. તમારા સંબંધીનો ક્યારે હું જોઈ આવીશ અને કોઈ વિઘ્ન વિના થયું એ આ વસ્તુ બરાબર નથી - મને એમ લાગે છે મલેશ્વરી બિલ્ડીંગથી તમારું કિરિયાણું ઘણું દૂર ગણાય. અને અત્યારનાં શિયાળાની વહેલી સવારમાં ત્યારે ત્યાં આગળ રાઈફલસરા ડેરા બદલવા પહોંચવું તે ઘણું. આ તો પરાણે નવું બનેલી રસ્તો સૂર્ય તેમ તમને લખી જણાવું છું. શીવની રસ્તો સૂર્ય તેમ તમને લખી જણાવું છું. શીવની અંદર આપના ગુજરાતીઓની ફ્લેટ સોસાયટી બિલ્ડીંગો બંધાયેલ છે. જેમાંના આપણા ભાઈ બાબુભાઈ સંઘાણી ઘણા વર્ષોથી રહે છે. અને એમના જ આ સોસાયટી બિલ્ડીંગમાં કેન્યાના હીરાલાલ મોહનલાલ ગાંધી એમના ઓફિસ તેમજ Ownership basis ઉપર આ ફ્લેટ રાખીને ત્યાં રહેવા ગયા છે.

 

ગયેલ છે તો મારું ધારે કે આ સોસાયટી બિલ્ડીંગની તપાસ મિશિયાનાની ઘરમાં વસતાં હોય ને જોતા હોય અને અનુકૂળતાવાળો ભાગ તો આપણો શિવાજી પાર્કનો ઉતારો મળતા સુધી બે ચાર મહિના માટે તમારી સુવાની સગવડ સાબન્ત ભાઈસાહેબ ત્યાં કરી લેશે. શિવાજી પાર્ક તે લોકોને મળીને ગોઠવણ કરી જજો. અથવા તમે જ્યોતિ સાથે ને ભાઈસાહેબ હું અહિયાંથી લખું તે આ કાગળમાં વાંચતા જ ખુલાસો લખશો.

બીજું બધા પ્રોસ્પેક્ટસના સોલ્યુશન પાસે જે ત્રણ પળોના પછી એટલે કે આપણા શિવાજી પાર્કનો ઉતારો તમને મળી ગયા પછી આપનું ત્યાં આવી નવા પાસે રહેવું તો તે બાબતમાં લ સમય દરમ્યાનમાં સંજોગો શું પલટો ખાય છે તે જોઈશે. તે વખતે બધી રીતે અનુકૂળતાવાળું હશે તો, જેમ કાઠીયાવાડ ક્રિયામાં દ્રસ્તન થશે. અને એજ તમારા નસીબ સંતાનને -

તારો પત્ર મળ્યો વાંચી આનંદ થયો. એ જ રીતે લખતો રહેજે. તારે ત્યાં સવારમાં બહુ વહેલું ઊઠવું પડતું હશે આ શિયાળાની ઠંડીમાં વહેલા ઊઠી તૈયાર થવું પડે વળી તારી જમવાની પણ ઉપાધિ એટલી ચિંતા રહે છે તો સંભાળીને રહેજે અમારી ચિંતા કરીશ નહીં.

Dear Brother Batuk,

Received your letter dated 25/12 three or four days ago. Read it and noted the details.

Regarding the daughter of Kishorilal-bhai from Valsad, a reply to the letter written to Khoradsh on the 25th has not been received from your end yet; it was good that you finalized that point with them. To gather information about this family, a letter has been written to Dear Anil and Respected Sister Indu in Rajkot. We shall see what clarification comes from them.

We know the family of Jayantilal-bhai from Junagadh, currently in Baroda, very well. The family is very noble. The people are good, gentle, and humble. My opinion, as well as your mother's, is that we should not venture into complete strangers. Yesterday, proposals arrived from Ra. Ra. Shri Indubhai Gathariya in Mumbai regarding an alliance with Jayantilal Shah's daughter, Urmila (age 21). Enclosed with his letter is the entire letter from Shri Jayantilal Shah for reading. In that letter, Shri Jayantilalji praises the girl. Urmila is 21 years old and has studied up to B.A. at Ruia College in Mumbai. Currently, she is receiving full training in household work (where she lives in Veraval). Sewing, knitting, studies, education—she has learned everything very well and is said to be clever at household work too. If you need any special details, do ask.

Since these proposals came from your end first, we intend to gather information about this girl indirectly. Shri Chunilal Gandhi living in Veraval (younger brother of Gangadhara-wali Aunt) and his wife, Respected Sister Mani, who runs the Mahila Mandal in Veraval—we will request information by writing a letter to them. If that information is favorable in every respect, I will write and inform you. After that, as per Dear Jayantilal-bhai Shah's request, if deemed fit to make inquiries about the girl, we will accept the proposal.

It seems to us that examining from all perspectives, this girl will turn out suitable. I feel inclined to form a relationship with this family. Although the girl's studies indicate up to B.A., she might not have given the B.A. exams—but consider that secondary.

Morarbhai had talked to me regarding the niece of Shri Chunilal Sanghani. But Chunilal had not come to Mumbai via the railway line in those days. However, as learned, he must have gone to Rajkot. A letter regarding this should also arrive from your end. Now what are your thoughts on this matter? Where are they from? What is the family like? After knowing all legal/proper details, I will consider further.

Secondly, regarding the boy sent by Dear Ramanikbhai for Dear Sister Jyoti, my brother Sevanti C.'s letter might have been missed—so if you happen to meet Dear Ramanikbhai or can reach him over the phone, arrange for him to get all the information regarding Bhurkhiya and write to inform you; I am also writing a letter to him from here.

Secondly, read your details regarding your new place and Jyoti. I will come and see when your relative's... and that it happened without any obstacle is not quite right—I feel your groceries/provisions from Maheshwari Building are quite far. And reaching there early in the winter morning to change camps/places is quite something. This is a newly made path, so I write to inform you. In Sion, flat society buildings of our Gujaratis have been constructed, in one of which our brother Babubhai Sanghani has been living for many years. And in his society building, Hiralal Mohanlal Gandhi of Kenya has taken a flat on an ownership basis along with his office and gone to live there.

Since he has gone, I feel that if you check this society building while staying and looking around, and if there is a convenient space, Respected Brother-in-law will arrange your sleeping facility over there for two to four months until our Shivaji Park accommodation is secured. Go and meet those people at Shivaji Park to make arrangements. Or you, along with Jyoti and Brother-in-law, clarify as soon as you read this paper that I am writing from here.

Secondly, regarding staying near the new place after the three steps of all prospectus solutions—that is, after our Shivaji Park accommodation is secured for you—we will have to see what circumstances turn out to be during that time. If it is convenient in every way then, as seen in Kathiawar practices... and that is for your lucky child—
