ચિ. ભાઈ બટુક, ચિ. આ પહેલાનો મારો પત્ર તમને મળી ગયો હશે, તેમાં લખ્યા મુજબ રાજકોટવાળા પેલા બહેન મુક્તા બહેનનાં સબંધી શ્રી છબીલદાસભાઈ મણિલાલની કન્યાને તેં જોઈ છે તેમ જણાય છે. એમ પણ પાછળથી સૌ. બહેન પુષ્પા બહેન, તથા મંજુ બહેન પાસેથી જાણવા મળ્યું છે. એ કન્યા પણ M.A. નો અભ્યાસ કરે છે પરંતુ શરીરે બહુ નબળી છે. એટલે એ ઠેકાણું બહુ appealing નથી. ગોંડલ વાળી કન્યા પણ M.A. Ph.D. ના કરે છે પરંતુ એની શારીરિક સ્થિતિ પણ એવી જ હોવાનું અને એ કુટુંબ પણ ઘણાં જ મોભાવાળું હોવા છતાં બીજી રીતે આપણને બહુ સુખી થાય તેવું ઠેકાણું ન હોવાનું મનાયેલું છે.

એમ તમારા મિત્ર ભાઈ ન્યાલચંદ ખોડીદાસનો બે દિવસ પહેલાં પત્ર આવેલો છે તેમાં વલસાડના વતની રા. રા. શ્રી કેશવલાલભાઈની દીકરી B.A. LL.B. થયેલી છે અને M.A. નો અભ્યાસ કરે છે. એમનું બાયોડેટા તમારી સાથે વિચારવા લખાયેલું કાંઈક આપને જે ખુલાસાવાર જવાબ લખ્યો છે. તે તમારા ધ્યાન સારુ આ સાથે બીડ્યો છે તે વાંચીને ત્યાંથી જ પોસ્ટ કરી નાખશો. આ ઠેકાણું સારું હોઈ, કન્યા સુશિક્ષિત અને દેખાવડી તેમજ મિલનસાર/સ્વભાવવાળી Social અને પ્રેમાળ હોય. ઊંચી કેળવણી લઈ લીધી હોય. પણ મારા પપ્પા વિચારે છે તેમ, સારી કેળવણી પામી હોય એટલે ઊંચી કેળવણીનું અભિમાન ન હોય - Superiority Complex ન હોય મતલબ કે અહંમતાની આભાસ વગર નમ્ર, વિનમ્ર અને પ્રેમાળ હોય, અને તમારું પણ બધુંય હોય તો વિચારવા જેવું ખરું. આ વલસાડવાળું કુટુંબ ઓગણીસ વર્ષ પહેલાં વલસાડ ગઈ વસેલું છે એટલે એમના સગા સબંધી બધા મુંબઈ બાજુ હશે. એમના સંસ્કાર અને ત્યાંની સંસ્કૃતિમાં આપણામાં જરાય ભિન્નતા નહીં હોય. અને માણસો રુવાબદાર, સારા, અને પ્રેમાળ અને પરાક્રમી, ઉદ્યોગમાં આપ જેવા હશે ને ભાઈ ખોડીદાસ પાસેથી જાણી

 

શકાયેલું સર્વે. ચિ. સૌ. બહેન પંજુ બહેન ગઈકાલે અહીં આવેલ છે. અઠવાડિયું રહેશે. અને સૌ કુશળ છે. તમારી કુશળતા ચાહું છું. ભાઈ ન્યાલચંદ ઉપરનો મારો જવાબ બરાબર મન દઈને વાંચી જજો. અને પાછળથી અણસમજુતી જેવું કાંઈ મંતવ્ય ન થાય બરાબર જણાશે - એવું લાગે પછી કુશળ -

ત્યાં જ્યોતિલાલ પ્રભુદાસ શાહ = જૂનાગઢના છે સદ્દગૃહસ્થ ખાનદાન અને સારા છે. શ્રી જ્યોતિલાલભાઈ શાહ કાઠિયાવાડના એ જ્ઞાતિના પ્રેસિડેન્ટ હોઈ ચિલોચનદાસ પાલીચંદ શાહનાં પૌત્ર થાય - આ ઠેકાણું પણ ઘણું સારું છે એમ એની દીકરી B.A. માં ભણે છે - તો એ કન્યા વિષેનાં બીજા બધા credentials જાણ્યા પછી એ ઠેકાણું બધી રીતે ઉત્તમ જણાતું હોય તો ન હેમંતનું પણ વિચારવા જેવું ખરું - એમ વલસાડવાળા ની કન્યાની બાબતમાં ન્યા. ખોડીદાસનો તેમજ તમારો શું ખુલાસો આવે છે તે પછી વાત આગળ ચલાવીએ. એ જ શી.

Dear Brother Batuk,

Greetings. You must have received my previous letter. As written in that letter, it appears you have seen the girl—the relative of Mukta-bahen from Rajkot—Shri Chhabildasbhai Manilal's daughter. This was also learned later from Respected Sister Pushpa-bahen and Manju-bahen. That girl is also studying for M.A., but physically she is very weak. Therefore, that proposal is not very appealing.

The girl from Gondal is also doing M.A. Ph.D., but her physical condition is also reported to be similar. Moreover, despite that family being of very high prestige/status, it is believed to be a place where we might not be very happy in other respects.

Similarly, a letter arrived two days ago from your friend Brother Nyalchand Khodidas, mentioning that the daughter of Ra. Ra. Shri Keshavlalbhai, a native of Valsad, has completed B.A. LL.B. and is studying for M.A. Their bio-data was written for consideration with you; whatever detailed reply was written for your attention is enclosed herewith. Please read it and post it directly from there.

This proposal seems good: the girl is well-educated, good-looking, friendly/sociable, and loving. She has received higher education, but as my father thinks, having received a good education, she should not have the pride of higher education—meaning no Superiority Complex—or in other words, she should be humble, polite, and loving without any trace of ego. If everything aligns with your preferences too, it is worth considering. This Valsad family moved and settled in Valsad nineteen years ago, so all their relatives must be around the Mumbai side. There won't be any difference between their values/culture and ours. The people are impressive, good, loving, courageous, and industrious like you, as learned from Brother Khodidas.

Dear Respected Sister Panju-bahen arrived here yesterday. She will stay for a week. Everyone is well here, and I wish for your well-being. Read my reply to Brother Nyalchand very carefully so that no misunderstanding or difference of opinion arises later if it seems right.

Over there, Jyotilal Prabhudas Shah (from Junagadh) is a noble, cultured, and good gentleman. Shri Jyotilalbhai Shah is the President of that community in Kathiawar and happens to be the grandson of Chilochandas Palichand Shah. This proposal is also very good; his daughter is studying in B.A. So, after gathering all other credentials about that girl, if that proposal seems best in every respect, it is also worth considering for Hemant.

After seeing what clarification comes from Nya. Khodidas and you regarding the girl from Valsad, we shall proceed further with the matter. That is all.
