ચિ. ભાઈ હેમેન્દ્ર, લિ. આતા. તમારા ૨૨મુ નો પત્ર મળ્યો વાંચી વિગત જાણી. Calico વાળા તો તેમની શરતોમાં ક્ષેત્રે ફેરફાર પણ બાંધછોડ કરવા માંગતા નથી, અને (મોતીભાઈ ઉપરના) તમે તપાસ આગલા પત્રમાં બતાડ્યા મુજબ મુંબઈમાં L.I.T. અને જાતે જ્યાં જ્યાં પ્રયત્ન કર્યો તેનાથી કોઈના તરફથી કોઈ response મળ્યો નથી એટલે Calico ની ટર્મ્સ તમને મંજૂર છે. અને તેઓને એવી કે ફોર્મ માતિકાજી આપ્યા માટે તમે અમદાવાદ ડોક્ટર સાહેબને પત્ર લખી નાખ્યા. બાબતની એની ભલામણ તે ઉપરથી મેં અત્રેથી ડોક્ટર સાહેબ સાથે ટેલિફોન ઉપર વાત કરીને આપની પાસે Calico નું મહત્વ બતાવવા ઘી ગિરા બહેન વડિયા ચી. દત્ત ને રૂબરૂમાં મળીને સમજાવવા છતાં કોઈ પણ જાતની બાંધછોડ + છૂટ આપવા તૈયાર ન થયા ત્યારે અહી ભલામણ પરંતુ ડો. સા. ની એવી સલાહ થઈ કે Calico ની પ્રતિષ્ઠા મોટી છે અને આપણી શરત ગુમાવવા જેવી નથી. તે થઈ કાલે મેં આપને પત્ર લખી નાખ્યું છે. આજે Calico ની terms કબુલ રાખ્યા નું લખાણ હશે. અને હેમેન્દ્ર ને માતિકાયો. એગ્રીમેન્ટ સહી થઈને આવે એટલે આખી દેશો અથવા ચિ. હેમેન્દ્ર જતા રહી તા. ૨૧/૬ મીનાં અમદાવાદ થઈને રાજકોટ નગર વડિયા આવવાના છે તો તે સાથે લેતા આવશે ત્યારે પરંતુ આજના તૈયાર પત્ર ઉપરથી તમને ત્યાં સુધી L.I.T. માં રૂ. ૪૦૦/- નું Yearly Note

 

મળી જવાની આશા બંધાય છે. અને તે રીતે નક્કી થઈ જાય તો તમારી ઈચ્છા પણ પૂરી થઈ જાય તેમ છે તે જાણવું Calico ની લાઇન. L.I.T. માં પાંચ ની બંધાણી (agreement) કરવાનું નથી હોતું તેમ રૂ. ૪૦૦/- માં તેનો પણ પગાર બોનસ અને D.A. નો સમાવેશ થઈને ઓફર કરવાનો હશે હવે આ લોકોને bonus & D.A. ની રૂ. ૪૦૦/- માં સમાવેશ કરે તો bonus ની રકમ પગારની સાથે દર મહિને ઉમેરી આપે કે પછી કંપની ની જેમ Aug. 1959 to March 1960 સુધી ૩ સર્વિસ મુજબનું Nov. 1960 માં આપે તેવું તો નહિ ને? તમારા પત્રમાં લખ્યા મુજબ Sh. N.M. Desai સાથે આખરે સવારે ટેલિફોન ઉપર વાતચીત કરી appointment નો ટાઇમ ફિક્સ કરી લીધો હશે આપની ચિંતામાં થઈને ત્યાંનો નિર્ણય જે કાંઈ હોય ગુણિયાં લેવાઈ જાય તો સારું કે જેથી કરીને Calico વાળાને બિનયપૂર્વક લાઈનના ના ન્યાય આપી દઈ શકાય - એટલું જ નહીં પણ ઘી ગિરાબહેન ને તમારે આપેલા આભાર સાથેનો પરસ્પર ઈન્ટરવ્યુ આપ્યા બાદનો અને patiently & frankly વાતચીત કર્યા માટેનો સરસ આપવો. તે બદલ ઘણો જ રૂણી છું વગેરે વિગતોથી પત્ર લખી નાખવો. હવે ત્યાં આગળ L.I.T. માં તમારા માટે ની ભલામણ અથવા આડેશથી પાન તો ચિ. ધનન્દ ભાઈ તથા ચિ. નોતમભાઈની આપશો - અને તેઓને ન આપવાના હોય તો Bombay Industries Association ના છેલ્લા ૧૦ વર્ષના ચેરમેન for છેલ્લી annual મીટિંગમાં રીટાયર થયા છે તે શ્રી D. K. Khetani (દુર્લભભાઈ ખોતાણી)

 

ની આપશો. (તદુપરાંત વધારાની ઓળખાણ માટે Sh. Shri. R. O. Zatakia ની આપશો.) આ ઇન્ટરવ્યુનું પરિણામ તમારી ઈચ્છા અને ધારણા મુજબ આવ્યું હોય અને ફાઇનલ થઈ ગયું હોય તો તા. ૨૧ અને ૨૬ મીનાં ત્યાંથી રાજકોટ આવશો અને તા. ૨૭ અને તેથી બે અત્રે વડિયા આવશો અને ત્યાંથી અમદાવાદ જવા ખબર આપી દેશો - કે જેથી આ વાતની અમને સદ્દન સેનાય અને નિરાંત થઈ જાય. હું અત્રેથી તા. ૨૭ મીનાં સાંજવાળા રાજકોટ જઈશ. અમો તા. ૨૬ મીનાં ત્યાં આ તરફ આવતા હોવાનું જણાઈશ. તા. ૨૭ મીનાં ચિ. નરેશ અને મોરારભાઈ જ્યારે ભાવનગર જવાના છે તો તેમની સાથે વિદાય થઈને જાવું. અને તા. ૩૦ મીનાં વડિયા આવી જઈશ. આ પ્રમાણે મારો પ્રોગ્રામ છે. તમારી ઈચ્છા અનુસાર આ ઇન્ટરવ્યુ તો તમને મુંબઈમાં L.I.T. માં job મળી ગઈ નહેંચાવવા યોગ્ય છે એટલે અમે સારો મુરત છે - બધાની સદ્દની તબીયત સારી છે ચિ. સૌ. ચંદુ બહેન તથા ચિ. જ્યોતિ બહેન પધારેલા છે. તાજેતરમાં ચિ. ભા. દિનેશને કઢવા- ડિયા પહેલા પરણાવી આવેલા. નવું ઘર આગળ રીટાયર્ડ થયા ઉપાર ફિરતા એ તદ્દન સારું છે. અને જ્યાંનું તમે ઘરે રાખેલું છે - ત્યારે એમ ઘરતો પણ સપના પાતી મુરાય. બાપુજીના સુંદર

Dear Brother Hemendra,

Greetings from Aata. Received your letter of the 22nd, read it, and noted the details.

The Calico people are unwilling to make any compromise or concessions regarding their terms, and as you showed in your previous letter (to Motibhai), despite trying yourself in Mumbai at L.I.T. and everywhere else, no response was received from anyone; thus, Calico's terms are acceptable to you. Regarding writing a letter to Dr. Saheb in Ahmedabad to give them the form/agreement...

Following that recommendation, I spoke with Dr. Saheb over the telephone from here. Despite meeting Gira-bahen in person via Vadia's Dear Dutt to emphasize the importance of Calico and explain things to her, she was not ready to grant any kind of compromise or concession. However, Dr. Saheb advised that Calico's prestige is high and we should not lose our opportunity. Therefore, I wrote a letter to you yesterday. Today, there should be a written acceptance of Calico's terms.

Once the agreement for Hemendra comes signed, send the whole thing, or when Dear Hemendra leaves on the 21st or 26th to come to Rajkot and Vadia via Ahmedabad, he can bring it along. However, based on today's prepared letter, there is hope of securing a yearly note/offer of Rs. 400/- at L.I.T. until then.

And if it gets finalized that way, your wish will also be fulfilled. It is known that Calico's line at L.I.T. does not require a five-year agreement, and the offer of Rs. 400/- likely includes salary, bonus, and D.A. Now, if these people include bonus & D.A. in the Rs. 400/-, will they add the bonus amount to the salary every month, or will they give it in Nov. 1960 for the 3-year service according to company policy from Aug. 1959 to March 1960?

As written in your letter, you must have spoken with Shri N.M. Desai on the telephone in the morning and fixed the appointment time. Whatever decision is taken there regarding your concern, it would be good if it gets settled, so that we can respectfully decline Calico.

Not only that, but after having a patient and frank interview with Gira-bahen, write her a nice letter expressing your gratitude, stating details such as "I am very grateful for your patient and frank conversation," etc.

Now, over there at L.I.T., for references or recommendations, give the names of Dear Dhanand-bhai and Dear Notambhai—and if they are not to be given, give Shri D. K. Khetani (Durlabhbhai Khetani), who was the chairman of the Bombay Industries Association for the last 10 years and retired at the last annual meeting.

(In addition, for further reference, give Shri R. O. Zatakia.)

If the outcome of this interview matches your wishes and expectations and gets finalized, then come from there to Rajkot on the 21st or 26th, and on the 27th or two days later come here to Vadia, and inform from there before leaving for Ahmedabad—so that we feel completely relieved and at peace about this matter.

I will go to Rajkot from here on the evening of the 27th. We will indicate that you are coming toward this side on the 26th. On the 27th, when Dear Naresh and Morarbhai are going to Bhavnagar, depart along with them. And I will return to Vadia on the 30th. This is my program.

As per your wish, if you have secured the job in Mumbai at L.I.T., this interview was worth attending, so it is a good omen—everyone's health is fine here. Dear Respected Chandu-bahen and Dear Respected Jyoti-bahen have arrived. Recently, Dear Brother Dinesh was married... It is completely good that he retired in front of the new house and moves around. And where you have kept the house—then the house dreams can also be fulfilled.
