"નૂતન વર્ષાભિનંદન"
તારું
એક પોસ્ટકાર્ડ નૂતન વર્ષાભિનંદનનું આવ્યું
છે એવા સમાચાર બે
દિવસ પહેલા મળ્યા હતાં પરંતુ હજી
સુધી એ પોસ્ટકાર્ડ મારા
હાથમાં આવ્યું નથી, આવે ત્યારે
તારા દિલની વાત જાણવા મળશે,
હજી સુધી તો જાત
જાતની કલ્પનાઓ જ દોડાવું છું
કે પત્ર માં તો
જાત જાતની ફરિયાદો હશે? કંઈક સારા
સમાચારો હશે? ત્યાંની દિવાળીનું
વર્ણન હશે? વગેરે
બીજું
આ વખતે તો મુંબઈની
દિવાળી વિજળીનો કાપ હોવાથી સાવ
અંધારી હતી. વીજળીની બત્તીઓ
ન કરવા માટે સખત
ચેતવણીઓ આપવા માં આવી
હતી એટલે કોઈક કોઈક
જગ્યાએ તેનું સ્થાન નાના નાના ટમટમીયાંઓએ
લીધું હતું અને આ
વખતે ફટાકડાઓતો કોઈ ગજબના તૂટ્યા
દાદરમાં ઘણા મકાનો ઉપર
સુંદર રીતે એક સરખા
કોડીયાં મુકવામાં આવ્યા હતાં. વિજળીની બત્તી કરતાં પણ અત્યંત સુંદર
લાગતાં
પ્રમાણે
આ વખતે ૨૧ મી
ઓક્ટોબરે ... મિત્રોને (આજુબાજુની ગેંગ તથા ... બોલાવ્યાં
હતાં અને ચા પાણી
નાસ્તા કરાવ્યાં હતાં.
બીજું
તારા અહીંનાં બ્લોકમાં કોઈ રહેવા આવ્યું
છે કે નહિ તે
જરૂર જણાવજે કારણ તને તારો
જવાબ આવ્યા પછી જણાવીશ. પત્રનો
જવાબ તુરત આપીશને?
હાલ
એજ ગઈ કાલે મેં
ફાફાએ, અનુપે અને રસીક કોઠારીએ
Rainbow Island જોયું. બહુંજ સુંદર અને કોમેડી છે.
તું કદાચ આ ચાર
નામોમાં છેલ્લા નામને નહિ ઓળખતો હોય
પણ એ તને તથા
તારા કુટુંબને બહુ સારી રીતે
ઓળખે છે એટલે તેનું
નામ લખ્યું છે, કદાચ તને
નામ પરથી આછો ખ્યાલ
આવે. કિંગ્સ સર્કલ પાસે રહે છે
અને ફાફા તથા મારા
ખાસ દોસ્ત છે.

"Happy New Year (Nutan Varshabhinandan)"
Two days ago, I received news that a Happy New Year postcard from you had arrived, but that postcard hasn't reached my hands yet. When it arrives, I will get to know what's in your heart; until now, I am just running all sorts of imaginations—will there be various complaints in the letter? Will there be some good news? Will there be a description of Diwali over there? etc.
Another thing—this time Diwali in Mumbai was completely dark due to electricity cuts. Strict warnings were issued against using electric lights, so in a few places, small flickering oil lamps took their place. And this time, firecrackers burst with incredible intensity! On many buildings in Dadar, beautiful rows of identical earthen lamps (kodiyas) were set up. They looked far more beautiful than electric lights.
On the 21st of October, friends (the neighboring gang and...) were invited, and tea, water, and snacks were served.
Another thing—do let me know whether anyone has moved into your block here or not, as I will tell you the reason after receiving your reply. You will reply to the letter promptly, won't you?
That is all for now. Yesterday, Fafa, Anup, Rasik Kothari, and I watched Rainbow Island. It is very beautiful and comedic. You might not recognize the last name among these four, but he knows you and your family very well, which is why I wrote his name; perhaps you might get a faint idea from the name. He lives near King's Circle and is a close friend of Fafa and me.
