ભાઈ દેવેન્દ્ર તારા બંને પત્રો
મળી ગયા છે, તેમાંથી
એકનો પણ હું જવાબ
નથી આપી શક્યો. તારો
બંને કાગળ વાંચી મુજને
આનંદ થયો કે તારી
થોડીક તબીયત શીર્ણ છે. અને તું
અત્યારે ત્યાં સુધરવા ..... જો ..... થશે. તારી સાથે
રખડવામાં મજા પડશે. પણ
કુદરત આપણને ..... નથી, કારણ હાથ
વગરે રજાનું મુખ્ય નામથી ભુલી જાય છે
નહિ.
આજે
છેલ્લા આઠ દિવસથી મારી
તબિયત બગડી છે. આજે
મેં ડો ને બતાવ્યું
છે ઓપરેશન કરવાની વાત છે. આજે
લોહી તપાસવા કહ્યું છે. આગળ શું
થાય છે તે જોઈએ.
આ ખબર વડીયા ન
આપશો, બાકી તબિયત રખે
ઘટતી ખરાબ હતી, એટલે
વળી ચિંતા ...
... દૂર વસતા
પ્રિયજન શબ્દોથીજ રાહત આપી શકાય,
પણ નજીક હોય અને
શબ્દોથી નહી કાર્યથી રાહત,
... તમારી માંદગી નું નુકશાન બાકીની
પણ ભોગવે છે ને રૂ.

તે તું જલ્દી દિવસમાં
જ નિકળવાનો કોશિશ નું અહીં આવીશ
ત્યારે દુર્ગાપુજા પુરી થઈ ગઈ
હશે અને કઈક જોવા
લાયક વસ્તુ ગુમાવી દેશો બાકી અહીં
જોયા લાયક માં પ્રવિણદાસીયા

વનસ્પતિશાસ્ત્ર માં સૌથી વધારે
વનસ્પતિ ત્યાં થાય છે અને

મુળ ક્યાં છે એ કોઈ

જીવદ વડ તો ઘણો
હોય પણ એતો અજયપિંડ
જેવો. અવશ્ય ફીઝ જો તમે
કલકત્તામાં દાખલ થતાં જ
જોઈ શકો. તેની નીચે
એક પણ ખીલડી નથી
એ જોજો.
તારા
નગર માટે તપાસ કરાયેલ
કે કારખાનું ચાલુ રહેવાનું છે
કે નહી. પણ એ
લોકોનું કઈ નક્કી નથી.
અને શાંતિનિકેતન જવા માટે અહીથી
ચાર પાંચ કલાક નો
રસ્તો છે, પણ ત્યાં
એ લોકો ના કોઈ
તહેવારો હોય ત્યારે જઈશ
તો જોવાની મજા આવે, આમેતો
કેડો રક્ષ પડે એવું
નથી (એમ એ કહે
છે) અને ત્યાં જેટલા
દિવસ રહેવું હોય એટલા દિવસનું
ખાવાનું પણ સાથે લઈ
જવું પડે, બીજુ જોવા
લાયક સ્થળ કોઈ યાદ
આવતું નથી.
બીજો
તું થોડા દિવસમાં જે
... અલીપુર તારા આવવાના પત્રમાં
જવાબ આપશે રૂબરૂ માં
જ ચર્ચા શું. તારી સાથે
ઘણી વાતો કરવી છે.

Dear Brother Devendra,
Received both of your letters; I haven't been able to reply to even one of them. Reading both your letters brought me joy to know that your health is somewhat delicate/frail, and that you are currently there to recover... if... happens. Wandering around with you will be fun. But nature doesn't... us, because main things are forgotten under the name of leave without hands.
My health has taken a turn for the worse for the last eight days. Today I showed it to the doctor; there is talk of an operation. Today they asked to test the blood. Let's see what happens next. Do not give this news to Vadia; otherwise, health was already deteriorating/bad, so again worry...
...words can only offer relief to loved ones living far away, but when near, relief is through action, not words... the loss of your illness is also borne by the rest, isn't it?
Anyway, try to leave within a few days soon; when you arrive here, Durga Puja will be over and you will miss seeing something worth watching. Other than that, among the worth-seeing places here with Pravindasiya...
Belur Math (where Ramakrishna Paramahamsa's temple is located).
Dakshineswar (where " " attained pure enlightenment).
Botanical Garden — maximum variety of flora in botany grows there, and there is a banyan tree whose original root no one has been able to find.
National Museum.
Zoo / Chidiya Khana, Lake.
Bapu, a banyan tree is very common, but that one is like an invincible/immense trunk. Definitely do check... as soon as you enter Calcutta, you can see it. Look for the fact that there isn't a single nail/support underneath it.
Inquiries were made regarding your town to see whether the factory is going to remain open or not. But nothing is certain from their end.
And to go to Shantiniketan, it is a four-to-five-hour journey from here, but if you go when they have some festival, it will be enjoyable to see. Otherwise, the path isn't particularly inviting (so they say), and for as many days as you wish to stay there, you have to carry food along with you. No other place worth seeing comes to mind.
Other than that, in a few days... Alipore... will reply in the letter confirming your arrival; we will discuss in person. I have a lot to talk about with you.
