વડિયાથી પૂ. બાપુજીનો પત્ર હતો. ત્યાં પણ હશે. પૂ. બાએ તમને યાદી લખાવી છે, તમારું વજન હવે ફરીથી વધ્યું કે નહિ? અહીંયા તો ખાસ નવીન કાંઈ છે જ નહિ. એક વજન વધે છે તે નવીન. રાંધવું ખાવું ને મમ કરવી. હવે તમે એક ત્યાં લખશો તો કોઈક વખત આવવા મળે. બોલાવશો ને? પત્ર જરૂર લખશો. લી. આપની ભાભી.

There is nothing particularly new here. The only new thing is my weight increasing! Cooking, eating, and taking a nap. Now, if you write to them there, maybe I will get a chance to visit sometime. You will invite me, won't you? Do write a letter.

પ્રિય ભાઈ બટુક, જત તારો તા. ૧૪ નો પત્ર મળ્યો. દિવસ પત્રમાં લખ્યો. મારા પત્ર ડ્રાફ્ટ વિ. સમજાવેલ તેમ મ. સૈન પાસેથી ૪૦ ડોલર મળ્યા તથા બાકીના તેમાં પિતાશ્રી ની પત્રમાં લખવા આપશે. તે જરૂર છે. ૪૧ય આ પત્ર ત્યાં તને મળશે તદદૂરમ્યાન તારા પિતાશ્રી ની પત્ર પણ આવી જશે. મતલબ ગઈકાલે પ્રમાણે થતું આવે છે. બાકીના ૪૦ ડોલર ગયા પછી તે પણ અન્ય ૪૦ ડોલર આપેલ હશે તેનો સારો ઉતારવાનો છે. પરંતુ ૨૧. ૯. ના બાબતની વાત ૨૨ અને ૪૧ શરત લેવું (૪૧ લેવું) તે કેટલા ઘર રહી શકશે તે જોવાનું. માટે તેની પાસે ઘણી બધી ઘણી કઈ વસ્તુ શું છે ત્યાં ત્યાં ત્યાં અને શું પરિણામ આપે છે તે.

માત્ર બાબત હવે Procedure બદલવો પડશે. એટલે કે તમારા પિતાશ્રી ને ડ્રીકર શું છે બરાબર બતાવ્યો ત્યારે સીમાને સુધર આપ થઈ અને તે કોઈ મતલબ ન પડે તે કરવા ૪૧ તને અનેક રસ્તો પામવાનો રહેશે. તે એવું છે કે તારે મ. સૈન પાસે આ પત્રમાં પિતાશ્રી પર લખાવેલ ને અને અને મોકલેલ એ જે ડ્રાફ્ટ સાથે હશે તેના પિતા ને પામી આપે. મ. સૈન પાસે એટલું લખાવવાનું કે આજના ક્યાર નો ડ્રાફ્ટ મને ગમે તે રીતે.

 

પત્ર પહોંચશે. પરંતુ આ બધું તમે શ્રદ્ધા પર ઉતરે ૪૦૨ રાખવું છે. તાર વાતમાં મ. સૈન નું ધ્યાન ૨૪૨ પર રાખ્યું કે તમારા પિતાશ્રી એ તમે આ રીતે પૈસા ખર્ચ છે તે વાત જાહેર ન પાડવું. સ્કૉલરશીપ ના પૈસાનો આ રીતે ઉપયોગ કરે તે તો મારે પણ જોખમકારક છે તે ભાવે સમજવું. ટૂંકમાં તમારા પિતાશ્રી બહુ લાંબી ચર્ચા આ બાબત ૪૧૪ ન કરે તેવો આપણો ઉદ્દેશ છે. જેથી ભવિષ્યમાં આપણને આ રમે મળતી સગવડમાં કોઈ Hitch ન આવે તે જોવાનું રહેશે.

પ. તા. ૧૧ દિગરે ૨૦૦૦૨ તા. ૨૨ મે ના એરપોર્ટ Plane માં તમે પહોંચ્યા અને ત્યાં જ ના તમે ૨૪૨ તો એવા Plane માં જવા માટે ખાવા થશે. ત્યારબાદ કંઈ પણ સમાચાર ન મળે. એ બે દિવસમાં સમાચાર મળશે. પ. તા. ૧૧ દિગરે હવામાં જમા માટે પત્રકાર નિમણૂક ગયા ન સારું થયું. કારણ કે આજે નયા નિયમો જમા સરકાર જાહેર પાડે છે તે Travelling માટે Return ટિકિટ બર્મિઝ ટ્રોલી માં મળે ત્યારે જશે. એટલે અર્થ એ કે Single Journey કરીને જમીન પૂરી થઈ શકે. પરંતુ ઇન્ડિયા પાછા ફરતા વખતે ઇન્ડિયામાં હાજર ન હોય તો આવવાના પૈસા ત્યાં ન હોય? ટૂંકમાં જમીન વધે છે. પ. તા. ૧૧ ૪૧૪ Return ટિકિટ વગર ૪૧૪ ૪૧૪ છે.

 

એટલે આપણે આ બાબતે મુકું કરવાની નથી પરંતુ ભવિષ્યમાં હવામાં જવા માટે બહુ વિચાર કરવાનો રહેશે. ત્યાં તું પરિણામે ધ્યાનમાં રાખીશ. ને Massey Harris Ferguson ની જોબ મળ ગઈ તો પ. પોટાલાલાના આ બાબતમાં રહેશે. More થશે થશે. રિપોર્ટમાં પણ હશે. ઘણા પ્રશ્નો વિચારવા જરૂરી છે. તથા ધ્યાનમાં રાખશો. પ. ની નાનું પણ ને તેનું આપણા માટે પરિશ્રમ કરે છે તેને થોડા વતન એ પહોંચી જઈશું.

સમયમાં કાર્યની જ છે. વેપારની તૈયારીના કારણે ઠંડા છે. Election ની અંદર Ruling Party પૂરી સત્તા સ્થાપે તે અંદર છે.

ત્યાં તારી સાથે આપણા ગુજરાતી વિદ્યાર્થીઓ કેટલા છે? બધાને સારું ગયું હશે. ઘણા પક્ષી Vegetarian હશે અને સુરત પણ કામય રાખ્યું હશે.

Dear Brother Batuk,

Greetings. Received your letter dated the 14th; the date was written in the letter. As explained regarding my letter draft etc., $40 was received from M. Sen, and regarding the remainder, Father will be asked to write in his letter. That is necessary. By the time this letter reaches you, Father's letter will also have arrived in the meantime. In short, things are proceeding according to yesterday's plan. After the remaining $40 is sent, those other $40 provided will need to be properly accounted for. However, regarding the matter of 21-9, we need to consider how long it can stay at home. Therefore, we must see what items are available with him there and what results they yield.

Only regarding the procedure, we will now have to change it. That is, when Father is shown clearly what the draft is, the boundary will improve and it will serve no purpose; to handle that, you will have to find several ways. આ સાથે યુગોસ્લેવિયાના ડ્રાફ્ટ મની ઓર્ડર પરના રસીદ ૬૫૦ ની મોકલેલ છે તો તે ત્યાં તું એમ. સેઇનને આપી દેજે. પછી લખજે. તમે અત્યારના કાગળે વિગતવાર પર Air letter લખશે તો સારું થશે.

વિશેષમાં પૂ. કિકા તથા પૂ. બા તથા દમયંતિ — આજ તા. ૫ મી ના મેલ હશે જ્યાં જતા હશે — તેઓ રંગુન બે ત્રણ દિવસ રોકાશે — ત્યાંથી હમણાં બેંગલોર થઈ ને દેશમાં જશે —

તારો Air letter ની અત્રે યાદ નો મળ્યો ગયેલ છે — આ પત્રમાં વિગત નથી લખતો — પરંતુ Air letter ની યાદ છે.

Enclosed herewith is the receipt for the Yugoslavia draft money order worth 650. Please hand it over to M. Sen there, and then write back to me. It would be better if you write a detailed Air Letter in response to this.

Furthermore, respected Kika, respected Ba, and Damayanti—they will likely be leaving on today's mail on the 5th and will stay in Rangoon for two or three days. From there, they will proceed via Bangalore to the native place (desh).

Your Air Letter reminder has been received here—I am not writing full details in this letter, but I have noted the Air Letter.

મોલમૈન, ૨જી એપ્રિલ ૧૯૫૬, સોમવાર. પ્રિય ભાઈ બટુક, વિશેષમાં જાણવાનું કે ૧૬ તારીખનો પત્ર મળ્યો. વાંચી આનંદ તો થયો પણ લખવામાં બે ત્રણ દિવસની ઢીલ થઈ છે કારણ કે ડ્રાફ્ટ લેવાનો હતો અને વચ્ચે બે દિવસની રજા હતી. આજે જ તને એક રજીસ્ટર્ડ પાર્સલ છે જેમાં યુનાઈટેડ કોમર્શિયલ બેંકનો ડ્રાફ્ટ ન. ૬૪૦.૦૦ નો U Hla Din ના નામનો મોકલેલ છે. અમે ડ્રાફ્ટ સીધો મ. સેઈનને મોકલવો યોગ્ય ન લાગ્યું કારણ કે અમે તે મ. સેઈનને મોકલ્યા પછી તે ત્યાં મ. સેઈનને મળે ત્યારે તને દોસ્ત મળે તદઉપરાંત ત્યાં ઢીલ પણ થાય. તને સીધો મળે તેનું કારણ એ કે ત્યાં તું તે ડ્રાફ્ટ મ. સેઈનને hand over કરે અને તેના બદલામાં ડોલર લઈ શકે. એટલે કે અદલા બદલીનો પ્રશ્ન ત્યાં ન થાય અને કોઈ બંનેને અવિશ્વાસનું કારણ ન રહે. વધારેમાં ડ્રાફ્ટ irrevocable છે. જે જેના નામનો લખ્યો હોય તેની મંજૂરી વગર તેના સિવાય બીજો કોઈ રોકડ કરી શકે નહીં. એટલે કે આ સિવાય તેવા નામનો જે આપણે ડ્રાફ્ટ લઈ લીધો છે તેમાં પૈસા સાચા થઈ ગયા. મ. સેઈનના નામે DB 625752/9/24 તા. ૨.૪.૧૯૫૬ છે. આ ડ્રાફ્ટ ત્યાં મ. સેઈનને આપવા માટે અને તેને રજીસ્ટર્ડ પોસ્ટમાં આપો અને વિશેષમાં જણાવવું કે ડ્રાફ્ટ Cross કરેલો છે. તે માટેમાં કોઈ અજાણ્યા વેપારીની બાંહેધરીને આપો જે રોકડ થાય. જો Cross ન કરવાનું કહે તો એ પત્ર અને કોઈના ખાતામાં જમા અપાવે અને થોડી ઘણી મુશ્કેલી નડે. તું મ. સેઈનને જે સમજાવે જે તે તેના પિતાજીને સમજાવે અને પત્ર લખે - ડોલર મળ્યા છે તેવો જવાબ લખજે.

 

તારા લખ્યા પ્રમાણે મ. સેઈનને આખું દુનિયાદારીની ગતાગમ નથી. તે આ ડ્રાફ્ટ બાબતમાં કોઈ શંકા રહે તો તું તારે તેને ત્યાં ડ્રાફ્ટ આપી દેજે. અને તેના પિતાજીને ત્યાં વસૂલ થઈ ગયા પછી ડોલર આપે તો તે રોકડ પતાવજે. આ બધું તો છે તારે ત્યાં શાંતિથી પતાવવાનું રહ્યું - મારું કામ પૂરું થયું. આ તો first transaction છે. એટલે દક્ષિણ વિગેરે વ્યવહારમાં જે થોડો સમય બગડ્યો અને થોડો સમય પણ બરબાદ થયો. પરંતુ આપણે તો બહુ મોટું કામ પતાવવાનું છે - એ દૃષ્ટિએ સમયની બરબાદી ગણવી ન જોઈએ. હવે મ. સેઈનની જગ્યા ઉત્તર જમામાં અને આપણે બધા રસ્તા બનાવ્યા. નાઈટ રોડ નો તો ડ્રાફ્ટ તેની પાછળમાં પણ નહિ. રોકડા પતાવવ. (ડ્રાફ્ટમાં U Hla Din ની સહી ડ્રાફ્ટ લખનાર જોડેમાં લખેલ છે. તે ગભરાવાનું કોઈ કારણ નથી - અને મ. સેઈનને કોઈ શંકા ભય નથી તેવો ખુલાસો લખવું છું.) તને આ પત્ર પહોંચ્યા પછી ઓફિસ તો તે ત્યાં મૌલેમાં જશે. કદાચ સ્ટેમ્પ ઓછો થઈ ગયો હોય તો તૈયાર નહિ. પ. તાતા, આ તારા પત્રથી જાણી લઈ બધાના ખબર ગુરુવારે આપણે ખાના થઈ જશે અને તે Via Calcutta Bangalore થઈને રજા જશે - રજાના બે ત્રણ દિવસ રહેશે.

 

હમણાં પૂજ્ય બાપુ શેરબજારની બધી જ બજેટ પત્ર આપશે - ખૂબ જંદા શેર ગયા છે. વધારે શું લખું, ભાઈ કાંતિભાઈની પરીક્ષા પૂરી થઈ ગઈ છે અને Second class માં પાસ થયા છે તે વાંચી તને આનંદ થશે. સ્થળાંતર થયું છે. પરંતુ તે બની શકે નહિ. તે Controller ની જરૂર છે. ત્યાં તારો અભ્યાસ જરૂર ચાલતો હશે. નવીન જ્ઞાપન. અમે આ માસની આખરમાં election છે - તે કારણે થોડી ઘણી ધમાલ ખૂબ જ થયા કરે - વેપાર પાણી સાધારણ છે. આપણા Indian માટે Remittance ની મુસીબત વધી ગઈ છે - મતલબની તવા સંભળવા માંગ છે. અને, ત્યાં નવિન લખજો. લિ. ભાઈ, રજીસ્ટર સાથે પત્ર રવાના છે ગરજ જે કાર્ય કોઈ ખાસ તો આધાર ધ્યાન રાખજે. અસ્તુ.

Dear Brother Batuk,

Greetings. Please be informed that your letter dated the 16th was received. I was glad to read it, but there was a delay of two to three days in writing back because the draft had to be obtained, and there were two holidays in between.

Today itself, a registered parcel is sent to you containing United Commercial Bank draft No. 640.00 drawn in the name of U Hla Din. We did not feel it appropriate to send the draft directly to M. Sen, because if sent to M. Sen, by the time it reached him there, friend, there would also be a delay. The reason for sending it directly to you is so that you can hand over that draft to M. Sen in person and receive dollars in exchange. That way, there will be no issue regarding exchange, and no reason for mistrust between either party. Furthermore, the draft is irrevocable. Whosoever's name it is written in, no one else can cash it without their authorization. Thus, since we have taken the draft in such a name, the money has become secured.

Under M. Sen's name, it is DB 625752/9/24 dated 2.4.1956. To give this draft to M. Sen there, send it by registered post, and note specifically that the draft is crossed. For that reason, provide a guarantee from a familiar merchant so that it gets cashed. If asked not to cross it, then that letter and depositing into someone's account could cause some difficulty. Whatever you explain to M. Sen, he should explain to his father and write a letter—do send a reply stating that the dollars have been received.

According to what you wrote, M. Sen lacks practical worldly understanding. If he has any doubt regarding this draft, go ahead and give him the draft there. And if his father provides the dollars after it clears there, settle it in cash. All of this remains for you to settle calmly there—my job is done. Since this is the first transaction, a little time was wasted in procedure etc., and a bit of time was lost. However, we have a very large task to accomplish—so from that perspective, this loss of time should not be considered a waste.

Now, regarding M. Sen's position in the upcoming process, we have prepared all the routes. There is no draft for the night road behind it either; settle in cash. (In the draft, U Hla Din's signature is written alongside the drawer of the draft. There is no reason to panic—and I am writing a clarification so M. Sen has no fear or doubt.) After this letter reaches you, if you go to the office, it will be at Moulmein. Perhaps if stamps fell short, it might not be ready. Regarding P. Tata, upon knowing from your letter, everyone will leave on Thursday and go via Calcutta and Bangalore—staying for two or three days during the break.

Recently, respected Bapu will send a budget letter regarding the entire stock market—shares have done very well. What more to write? You will be glad to read that Brother Kantibhai's exams are over and he has passed in the Second Class. There was a relocation, but that cannot happen; a Controller is needed. Your studies must be going well there. New updates: We have elections at the end of this month—because of that, there is quite a bit of hustle and bustle. Business and trade are average. The difficulty regarding remittance for our Indians has increased—meaning there are reports to that effect. Do write if there is anything new there.

મોલમેન, તા. ૬ માર્ચ ૧૯૫૬.

પ્રિયભાઈ બટુ, જત તારો Air mail પત્ર તા. શુક્ર ફેબ્રુઆરીના આતરોજ મળ્યો. રજુ ગઈકાલે તને તારા અગાઉના પત્રનો જવાબ લખી પોસ્ટ કરી છે. સાથે નિતિનના ફોટા પણ મોકલી છે- જે તને આ પત્ર મળતા પહેલા મળશે.

ત્યાં KY AUKSE વાળા બર્માના સ્ટુડન્ટ શ્રી. Kyaw Sein સાથેની ગોઠવણ કરી. ૧૦૦ ડોલર ત્યાં જ ૧૦ લેશે આપશે. અને વધારે ૨૦૦ ડોલર પણ તેની પાસે છે અને તે ત્યાં જ ૧૦ અને ૧.૫૦ જણાવે છે - તો તે લખવાનું કે ભાવ તો ઘણો Reasonable છે - માટે ૧૦૦ ડોલર ૬૪૦ પા નારી ત્યાં ને ઘણું સારું પડ્યું. વધારે કદાચ ૨૦૦ ડોલર બને ત્યાં શુક્ર ૭ ના ભાવમાં મળે તો ઠીક રહેશે અને જો નહીં જ મળે તો પછી તેના ૧.૫૦ માટે ખરી વાત નક્કી કરજે - અને તુરત જણાવજે.

ઉપરનો મુદ્દો તો સમજાય ગયો હશે - હવે મુદ્દાની વાત એ છે કે રેમિટન્સની Procedure તે તને પિતાશ્રીને મનીઓર્ડર (Air mail થી) ને માટે આપવા જણાવ્યું - બરાઈ Deep study કરીને procedure અનુસરવા ખાસ જોશે. આ ક્રિયા માટે KY AUKSE Upper Burma માં આવ્યું - આપણો Lower Burma માં રહે એટલે ઘણું દૂર પડે - તે ઉપરાંત દુર હોવાના કારણે માણસો ત્યાં છે તેનો અભિપ્રાય મળશે તો જન્મી તો સારા માણસો હશે. પરંતુ આપણે [બાજુમાં લખેલું: આપણી પણ વાત કે જે નિતિન પાસે સોય ને તે બધારે સાવચેત રહેવું]

કામ લેવાનું રહ્યું અને સરમર્યા ત્યાં બંધ ન આવે તે પ્રમાણે પાર ઉતારવાનું રહ્યું. તો હું ત્યાં તુરંત શ્રી. Kyaw Sein (ક્યો સેઈન) ને મમતે તમે નીચેની બે procedure માં થઈ મારું આવશે તે બાબત ખુલાસો કરી લેજે એટલે પછી આપણે વગર ઠીક clear close કરી નાખીએ.

૧. અમેરિકા તરફના ડ્રાફ્ટ (અમે બે બેનો છે અને સ્ટેટ કોમર્શિયલ બેંક અને અબજ યુનાઇટેડ કોમર્શિયલ બેંક) નો Cash ચેક જેટલી - ૨૫૦ના મગાવવાના હોય તો તેના હું ત્યાં તને મોકલીશ એટલે તારે તે બે શ્રી. સો સેઈનને આપી અને તેની બદલામાં ડોલર ત્યાં લઈ લેવા. શ્રી. સો સેઈન ૫૦૨ ને તે ને તે પિતાશ્રી ને ત્યાં ખબરપૂત મોકલાવે અને તેઓ cash ટ્રાન્સફર અથવા તો જો તને ઉપર મુજબ ભરોસો ન બેસે તો નીચે મુજબની પદ્ધતિ અપનાવવી.

૨. અમેરિકા યુએસએ અથવા સ્ટેટ જે બેંકમાં હોય તેના Demand Draft ના પિતાશ્રી અથવા જે મગાવવાનો હોય તેના નામનો શુક્ર અથવા માંડલે બેંક પર ઠરાવી હું મને ત્યાં કરીને તે નામનું આપું જે તારે ત્યાં તે વ્યક્તિને આપીને તુરંત વાપતા તેટલા ડોલર લઈ લેવા - નહીં તો Draft માં લાગતા વખતે તે ત્યાં ખાસ કરીને [બાજુમાં લખેલું: મંગાવવા] આપીને તે તે (પાયા) જ પૈસા લઈ લે.

પણ તારા ત્યાં [બાજુમાં લખેલું: મંગાવવા] યુએસ બેંકની એ ખાતરી માંડલે માં છે અને (KYAUKSE) - આવશે ત્યારે અમુક નક્કી છે એટલે ત્યાં ડ્રાફ્ટ વરાવવત

 

માટે રંગૂન પણ મળવા નહીં પડે. ત્યાં નસ્તમાં માંડલેમાં તેઓ વટાવી શકશે.

તું સમજે શકીશ કે આ પ્રમાણે [બાજુમાં લખેલું: પણ] જ્યારે આપણે તેમનું જોખમ પણ ઓછું થઈ જાય તેમ કોઈ suspense ની નરરહે. તારે ત્યાં રહીને આપણું નામ દઈ અને ત્યાં સુધી રહેવું નર. રકમ કસૂન સધર છે તે [બાજુમાં લખેલું: બધું કામ પણ] છે. - અમેરિકા ડ્રાફ્ટ પામીશું ને ઉપર પણ કોઈ સગવડ ન સાધે ને [બાજુમાં લખેલું: એવું પણ] ન થાય કે ડ્રાફ્ટ ઠરાવ્યો છે - ડ્રાફ્ટમાં નામ જેને પૈસા દેવાના હોય તેનું નામ હોય. શ્રી. Kyaw Sein ને કાયમ તો ની વિશ્વાસ ન બેસે પરંતુ ડ્રાફ્ટમાં [બાજુમાં લખેલું: નામ] તો તેને લખવાનું કારણ પણ ન હોય.

Air mail થી મોકલવાનું થાય તો પણ તપાસ કરવાની જરૂર પડે તેમાં સાતો જતા સસ્તાર છે - પોસ્ટનું ઠામું નરુ. અન્ય કોઈ વિશ્વાસ મોલમેન-રંગૂન અથવા મલના હોય તો ના રૂજુ કરી રકમ આપ શકાઈ અને આ procedure ની જરૂર ન રહે - તો એ આશા પિગાણે [બાજુમાં લખેલું: તો હું તો નક્કી કરીને જણાવજે] ત્યાં તું નક્કી કરીને જણાવજે - અને જો ૭૦૦ ડોલરનો ચેક નક્કી કરી નાખજે. ચેક ન ઠરાવે રંગૂન અથવા માંડલે બેંક પરનો રસ્તર પણ મામલા થાય. જેની પાસેથી ડોલર મંગાવવાના હોય તેના ઘરની history અને તે શું માણસ શું ધંધો કરે છે તેની પણ પૂછ સકે - આપણી safety માટે.

Dear Brother Batu,

Greetings. Received your Air Mail letter dated Friday, February, today. Just yesterday, I wrote a reply to your previous letter and posted it. I also sent photos of Nitin along with it—which you will receive before this letter reaches you.

Regarding the arrangement made with the Burmese student Mr. Kyaw Sein from Kyaukse: he will give $100 there at the rate of 10. He also has another $200 and offers rates of 10 and 1.50 for that—so I must write that the rate is very reasonable; getting $100 for 640 pyas there turned out to be very good. If possible, if another $200 can be obtained there at the rate of 7, that would be fine; if not, then finalize the rate at 1.50 for him—and inform me immediately.

The above point must be clear to you—now the main point is the remittance procedure that you were asked to give Father via Money Order (by Air Mail). One needs to study it very deeply and follow the procedure carefully. For this action, Kyaukse is in Upper Burma—we live in Lower Burma, so it is quite far away. Furthermore, because of the distance, if we get opinions about the people there, we will know if they are good people.

To get the work done, it must be carried out in such a way that no limits or boundaries are broken. So, clarify with Mr. Kyaw Sein there regarding which of the following two procedures will be used, so that we can close the matter clearly without any issue:

1. If cash checks worth $250 of America-bound drafts (we have two banks—State Commercial Bank and United Commercial Bank) are to be requested, I will send them to you there. You will then give them to Mr. Kyaw Sein and take dollars from him in return. Mr. Kyaw Sein can send word to his father there, and they can do a cash transfer. Or, if you do not feel confident in the above method, adopt the method below.

2. Take a Demand Draft from the State Bank or whichever bank in the USA, drawn in the name of his father or whoever is requesting it, made out to a bank in Pyinmana or Mandalay. I will issue it in that name, which you will hand over to that person there and immediately receive the equivalent dollars. Otherwise, while issuing the draft, give it specifically so that they can take the cash directly.

Having a US bank guarantee in Mandalay and Kyaukse is certain when it comes, so for encashing the draft, they won't even need to go to Rangoon. They will be able to encash it in Mandalay on the way.

You can understand that this way, our risk is minimized and no suspense remains. You won't have to stay there using our name. The amount is quite sound. If an American draft is obtained, no other arrangement will be needed, and it won't be that the draft was drawn with a specific name for the payee. Mr. Kyaw Sein might not feel trust initially, but if the name is on the draft, he won't have any reason to complain.

If it is to be sent by Air Mail, an inquiry needs to be made—it is cheaper that way, as the post office isn't reliable. If there is any other reliable contact in Moulmein, Rangoon, or Mandalay, the amount can be handed over directly and this procedure won't be necessary. So, decide there and inform me—and if a $700 check is to be finalized, do so. If not a check, a draft on a Rangoon or Mandalay bank can also resolve the issue. For our safety, you may also inquire about the background/history of the person from whom dollars are being requested and what business he does.
